My son got accepted into a lot of schools but the out of state tuition is unbelievable. He wanted to go to Colorado State but out of state tuition was 32K. In state was 11K. He ended up going to USF and between the bright futures, pre-paid and scholarships, he will end up making money going there.

Yeah, out of state really doesn't make much sense for a state school unless you have a very specific plan (i.e., there is an elite program at an out of state, state school, not available in-state).

Didn't realize UNT was cheaper than the two majors (UT, TAMU). They're both in the 25-30k per year range for in-state

My daughter is headed to London for PT school. In the EU, you can get licensed with a masters instead of a PHD. You can then sit for the test and become licensed in the US. Cutting a year out makes it much cheaper to go oversees and do it. She was admitted to one of the best programs in England and yearly PT tuition is less there than at UF where she got her BS

Appreciate the information and it is interesting but uprooting to Europe isn't feasible for many depending on respective situations. Just curious, how did she learn about this option?

She was looking at her options and found the loophole to avoid the third year of school. She wants to travel / work worldwide so international / reciprocal licensure inquiry led her there. Has a house lined up with 3 others through school network. Properties owned by the school and leased out to students. Bigger picture is higher ed keeps programs capped so they can charge stupid prices for post grad programs

UNT has a tuition calculator and it may be different according to major. From what I can tell, annual tuition is in the 11-14k range and COA is about 26k (in-state).

Crazy to hear that UT Austin is 25-30 for tuition only.

I misread slightly. It's 30k for COA for UT. TAMU is about 7k per semester (tuition only) for "General Studies"

Either way, both are significantly more than UF's tuition costs for residents. Likely because of the lottery money.

I unequivocally support this forgiveness. Students who were defrauded and received no value like here should have their debts forgiven

WASHINGTON — Students who used federal loans to attend ITT Technical Institute as far back as 2005 will automatically get that debt canceled after authorities found "widespread and pervasive misrepresentations" at the defunct for-profit college chain, the Biden administration announced Tuesday.

The action will cancel $3.9 billion in federal student debt for 208,000 borrowers, the Education Department said. The debt is being forgiven using a federal rule known as borrower defense, which is meant to protect students from colleges that make false advertising claims or otherwise commit fraud.

"The evidence shows that for years, ITT's leaders intentionally misled students about the quality of their programs in order to profit off federal student loan programs, with no regard for the hardship this would cause," Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said.

It seems to me that the universities took every increase in govt benefits as carte Blanche to raise tuition a like amount. I don’t have the answers but for profit schools typically aren’t(Embry Riddle) is an exception I am thinking of. I think reasonably priced online education might be the solution but school textbook publishers should be the first against the wall after the coming revolution.

Not exactly. University tuition is market driven, but also dependent upon state appropriations, which have decreased periodically. I'll have to try and locate more comprehensive data, but this illustrates the relationship between appropriations and tuition. When appropriations are compromised, universities become more tuition dependent.
