One or two 5* guys added to a class ranked 10-15 isn’t bad at all but it’s not earth-shattering unless you expectations have sunk really low.
You're not alone Doc. The collapse of western civilization is gaining momentum at an exponential rate. The motto of this craven new world has become "It matters not how you play the game, but whether you win or lose." I may not have any choice but to endure it, but I sure as hell don't have to cheer it on or participate in hastening the process. THW Miami and all the other cheats, thieves, liars and thugs of the world. I sincerely hope they all choke on their ill-gotten gains.
If we add another 5-7 strong, 4-star types, to go along with that pair of hypothetical 5-stars, you're almost certainly talking about a legitimate top 6th to 8th-ranked class. Not that I "expect" that to happen, but if it does, I'll embrace it gratefully and won't be apologizing to anyone about how far my personal standards have fallen. Just sayin.'
No doubt , 20 4’s and a couple 5’s is some pretty strong recruiting. 6 to 8 should be doable without having to spend ridiculous money to buy players but if it’s not too 5, we more than likely are still on the outside looking in. Maybe it gets better in a few years.
An honest 8-10 ranking with no Mullen style non-qualifiers thrown in to make things look semi-respectable, or the 8-12 who would never see the field for one reason or another, wouldn't be a bad start. That might be doable with one top-10 caliber 5-star and 20-21 genuine no BS 4-stars, plus a few legit 3-stars with actual potential. Personally, I'm as concerned with the final average player ranking as I am with a specific numeral class ranking. If we can push that average to around 92.5 to 93, we'll have something to work with while Billy rebuilds our brand and gets any kinks worked out with the staff and support system. My confidence level is definitely going up though, and if we pull a couple of rabbits out of our hat, who knows?
We're currently ranked 12th, and, if you added two 5*s, I think we would be up around 7th or higher. That's not my definition of really low expectations for a first year P5 coach.
