Wildfires in Slovenia are exploding unexploded ordinance from WWI, endangering firefighters.

Wildfires are setting off hundreds of unexploded bombs on WWI battlefields, endangering firefighters

We found several WWII bombs in Germany while building a new chemical plant there a few years back. If you dig in or near any old industrial complex in Germany, there is a good chance of finding an unexploded bomb or two. The ones in Oranienburg west of Berlin are especially dangerous--they were designed with delayed chemical fuses to kill people as they were cleaning up from the bombs that did go off, to wipe out their research program on the atomic bomb.

I was deployed to Kosovo in 2018. We were constantly finding UXO as old as WWI, too.

We Americans don’t understand the European perspective of having been a theatre for mass war in the 20th century. It affects one’s outlook.
