The data says otherwise as a whole though. People in urban centers are more fearful. I've lived in both. I prefer where I am now. Superbia with large lots. (Some Horse farms on my rd make ot even more spread out). I like the quiet and the country feel. But in honesty I am much less concerned about safety than I have been in places where sirens are blaring.
.. and is this just about crime? My kids can ride around in the golf cart or take their bikes all over. I have no fear for the traffic out here. Can't do that in a rural setting with little to no risk. I know every kid within a mile of my house, so I know who my kids are with. Cant say that in an urban setting with stories of people stacked on top of each other. There are a lot of things to fear in a congested busy area that are not crime related.
Maybe I'm an outlier but that's just not my experience nor have I seen relevant data saying urban residents are more fearful than rural residents. I would further add that many rural folks have an unjustified fear of big city life. I buy that urban areas "may" have higher crime stats due to population density, but that's not the same as saying urban residents are more fearful.
Sounds good and glad that works for ur family. Lived in the burbs when raising a family and in the city as a young professional and empty nester. Lived rural as. a kid and now have a rural place for helping out in laws. If ur a fearful person u can find potential danger anywhere. A squirrel family just tore up my MILs attic, cost her several thousand to fix then she stepped in a gopher hole, spraining her ankle .
Chicago isn't even in the top 10 (through June 30, 2022) Some numbers from 2021 focusing on Jackson, Mississippi, in hard red state deep in the heart of Trump country. Jackson MS is in the heart of Trump country? you do realize that Jackson is almost an all black city. i would take a wild guess that they werent Trump voters
Maybe so, but thanks to Mississippi's gun laws or more accurately lack thereof it's probably very easy for those residents of the city to acquire the firearms used in the homicides.
There are a lot of places where people have firearms and they don't go around killing each other. More of an indictment of the residents of Jackson than MS gun laws
52% shows what media - printed and social - hyperbole does to people. I work in education around mental wellbeing and it's a big issue. Society rarely seems to rationalise the strength of its words - power words grab more attention; a little moderation would go a long way. Language is a choice - not everything has to be hostile, dismayed, victimised and so on. Moderate language and a lot of our daily worries pass away.

Cannot tell whether you are actually serious or are being facetious. The chances are that the thugs responsible for a majority of murders aren't even registered to vote much less identifying as Democrats and whether you're willing to admit it or not the lack of adequate gun control laws does make it easier from them to acquire guns. Said it before, gun trafficking is probably the near perfect crime based on the probability of being caught.
I get it. I like urban life. Just putting the data to the topic. People are more fearful 8n urban settings. Probably many for non crime related reasons. Many may not even be justified. It is however true.
Wasn’t sure if you were being serious when you used Jackson, MS violent crime rates as an example of dangerous red areas.
It's somewhat of an extreme example but it does rebut the former president's favorite narrative repeated frequently by posters to this board that Chicago is implicitly the most dangerous city in the country.
Again, my only point is that many folks are afraid of places they've never been based on the media hysteria. I've met people afraid to move to Fl due to all the alligators they see on the news. I'm currently in FtLauderdale visiting Gator friends having an awesome time.
