Toomey is claiming the $400B isn’t in the House Bill. Is there a link with the reconciliation between the two bills?
There isn’t any junk. Apparently he thinks spending on veterans with service related cancers is junk spending. Vietnam veterans went through this trying to convince politicians that Agent Orange related conditions, and PTSD was a real thing.
Let’s be clear about what Toomey wants. He wants the spending to be discretionary so it can be cut. Care for out sick and wounded veterans should never be at the whims of never served a day in combat politicians. the truth is Republicans are so angry that Democrats are going to pass a bill fighting high healthcare costs and inflation (which they wail about daily)… that they’re retaliating by blocking a bill expanding funding to US veterans exposed to toxic burn pits. Republicans need to do better.
No issues with your POV on all of that. It is assumed that both parties use maximum pressure to hurt each other’s agenda. I asked for where you see the House and Senate versions and the budget. If you can point me to it, I will do my own reading. The numbers are what I am trying to understand.
Yeah. I wake up trying to divide. Thats why I said. "Both sides do it and its bad for America." The "some on the left" comment was directed at a small group that constantly rip dad or q for starting threads while they say nothing to this poster who is spamming the board with sarcastic partisan drama. At least some of us on the right have called out some of the spam posting that goes on. So if people want me to not make the distinction, than dont create one. Many bills are a partisan pep rally. Designed to make the other side look bad if they dont cave. Both sides are equally complicit.
Your comment is insulting and bullcrap. I live in a military area and come from a military family. My brother in law was injured in duty and has lingering issues. The VA is a mess in need of fixing no doubt. But this idea that republicans/conservatives hate the military because they wont vote for this bill as is is nonsense. Heck I could easily say "democrats hate the military because they wont trim the bill down to a level acceptable for passing" which would also be nonsense. No one hates our military. There are different approaches to improving their health and this bill os just an example of that.
Why must you label people who do not appreciate the conspiratorial nonsense posted by those two as from the "left"? Are there not people on the "right" who dislike misinformation as well? Bueller? Your bothsideist nature is well established. Again... "sides".
H.R.3967 - 117th Congress (2021-2022): Honoring our PACT Act of 2022 The text hasn't changed since 6/16/22. Afer that amendment, it passed the Senate 84-14 on the same day. It passed the House back in March.
Also, and this may be unrelated, but the VA issues arent just money. Its a terribly inefficient organization. Ask any person in need of their services. I recently had an employee (vet) wait almost a year for hernia surgery. I got mine in 8 weeks. His wait was mostly bureaucratic. A lot of vets have issues with the VA and many will go the private route to avoid it if the means are there.
Of course. Thats my point. People on both sides call them out. Where are the people on the left calling this out? These silly threads which generally are shaky to begin with get piled on with support. That should bother reasonable posters like you more than me pointing it out. I was very clear to not lump everyone on the left in. Just the small minority who shoot down certain threads from the first moment based solely on who the OP is.
Me too, I'm not sure how Toomey is able to stop it from moving forward at this point, but here we are.
Regardless though Pubs in the Senate overwhelmingly supported the bill at its final vote so the claim that Republicans dont care based on this bill is exactly as I assumed. Nonsense.
They’re claiming it’s for some imaginary glitch, but in reality it’s because of the reconciliation deal they can’t stop. In short it’s just another GOP hissy fit. You’re right though, it will pass because republicans will eventually see how damaging their no vote is.
So spell it out. I perused the bill (it’s “only” 150 pages) and I see NO junk. Every section and line I see - if not having specifically to do with burn bit issues - has to do with the VA. Keep in mind this bill isn’t just burn pits either, it’s all types of chemical exposures on military bases, burn pits is just the biggest one causing immediate health effects. It includes studying jet fuels exposure. The one thing that jumped out as a reach (just because of how far in the past) was the epidemiological study of the Manhattan project, but something like that would definitely qualify as a toxic exposure (and I doubt the funding for a study amounts to much). Maybe $400B is more than the VA needs to handle these chemical exposure issues, if this is on top of their budget it’s a pretty substantial increase for them, but then the issue is with the dollar figure, not “junk” or “pork” as those definitions mean something else. The pork might appear later in appropriations, but I don’t see it in this bill. I see several people complaining about the language about facilities leases, or compensation, as I pointed out nothing happens without the people to do it! I’m surprised nobody jumped on the epidemiological studies the bill calls for, because who needs science in medicine. Amirite? In either case, Republicans are playing games with their flip flop, several of them already gave up the game that it’s payback rather than honest ideological disagreement.
