It hasn't hurt Clemson from being in the CFP, beating Bama, and winning a couple of national championships.

Mario had the higher rated kids last year and lost twice to Utah. He was outcoached in those games as well.

Ohio State lost to Michigan and Oregon. Defense was not great last year. Gave up 45 to Utah in a win.

The Oregon game also have been the worst game Stroud played last year. That D was really disappointing which is a shame because that offense was humming by the end of the year.

That’s not Oregon’s fault. Had they lost to OSU, folks would have used it against Cristobal

Yes but hey were wildly underwhelming a majority of the other games.

Oregon needed a late 4th qtr TD to beat unranked Fresno state. With Fresno heading into 4th with the lead.

They lost to an unranked Stanford team

Barely beat a bad 1-5 Cal team who had the lead heading into the 4th and Oregon only won by 7

Same with a bad unranked UCLA team who they beat by only 3.

Then of ccourse they lost 3 of the last 4 games.

Definitely left something to be desired.

A win is a win is a win when it's all said and done. Again, i'm not saying MC is an elite HC, but folks are grossly overstating his game day coaching. Say what you want, but wins and losses are the only thing that matters when the clock hits zero.

Only a very small select group, which is the definition of elite.

Yes, and, Cristobal is only 62-60 as a head coach, including 35-13 at the P5 level in an arguably lesser conference, not to mention 0-0 at Miami. Too many people are idolizing this guy without really having done all that much yet. And, I'm sure his performance at Miami will be falsely inflated based on how well Ruiz is scamming the system.

yep and even they have hiccups against lesser teams from time to time.

His overall record is kind of skewed though. FIU was only 4 years into playing football when he took over for his first HC job so that def wasn't a beneficial situation for him. We'll see though; the ACC is a middling conference and they return enough talent to say anything less that a division title this year is a disappointment.

Screw Miami though; 2024 can't come soon enough

Yeah, the current state of the ACC will contribute to his overrating. If he doesn't practically run the conference table this year, it will be a surprise.

Not to be a party pooper but many of the arguments being made here could be applied to UF/CBN - One can skew past facts in a myriad of ways to reach the point or conclusion one wishes.

Bobby is right and we all know it, at the end of the day (or should I say, the season) the won-loss record tells the tale.

Hey it pisses me off too that Miami is winning some recruiting battles against us (at the moment), Ruiz or not. And while SEC, ergo, UF fans may take pride in the SEC, I find disparaging other conferences is a poor mans argument towards "making points" - without other conferences we wouldn't have nearly as much fun in enjoying college football (or whatever it is nowdays), at least IMO.

I council PATIENCE, the recruiting wars are far from over. Besides we should have a decent little bump by next week.

AND - I think the last week of early National Signing Day is going to be CRAZY! De-Commits, Re-Commits, Rumor Mongering, Twitter Madness and of course the NIL bidding war and "FINAL-OFFERS" will really make things interesting. I have a feeling that we could see 25% - 33% wholesale class changes in that last week. As I posted before, does a verbal really mean that much right now?

    Just my 2 Cents

Yea Miami is winning some head to head battles right now but like you said, the war is far from over and we're going to win our share of battles as well. We know they wanted Denson and Harris.

Clemson is an SEC team playing in the awful ACC who needs to generally beat one decent (read 5 loss SEC team) team a year to be crowned ACC champion. They play starters half a game for most of their ACC competition and dont get banged up going at it with another physical team for 4 quarters. Then when you get to the championship games anything can happen. That being said Clemson was a really solid team who proved they belong.

However last year was a down year for Clemson and as a result the ACC showed what they really were with NO ONE else filling their spot similar to Clemson filling it when FSU went down hill after the rapist. Quite frankly I havent seen anything this year that tells me the ACC will be any better either. Miami will be better but at best they crack the top 15 at years end...and hopefully they destroy FSU.

Yeah, I think I'm still in wait and see mode with him, can't knock him real bad for his time at FIU but digging a little deeper tells a little different story also you would like to see good coaches win at what ever level they are at. MC took over FIU after 5 seasons of existence. His 3rd season at FIU in 2010 was his best going 7-6 but he got worse after that with his 5th and final season being the second worst record (3-9) in the 5 years there. Ideally you would like to see an improvement after 5 seasons. His trajectory was not going the right direction.

And I know it's a smaller school among a few big ones but FLA has enough talent at all levels to field decent teams. And there history to prove it.

Take Jim Leavitt for example at a school not too far from FIU. He was the coach when USF started a football program in '97. They held their 1st team meeting under a shade tree because they had no facilities Yet....

    "Jim Leavitt era (1997–2010)Edit

In 1997, Jim Leavitt, previously the co-defensive coordinator at Kansas State, was hired as the team's first head coach.[2] Their first team meeting was held under a shade tree, as the school had no proper football facilities on campus. The team started as a Division I-AA (now Division I FCS) independent for their first four seasons, finishing with a winning record three times and ranked in the AP Poll twice."

He went on to have 3 winning season out of the 1st 4 propelling them to move up to the FBS division. After that Leavitt continued to do good things even getting his team ranked as High as #2 in the BCS standings in 2007.

"The 2007 football season marked the first ascent into both the AP Poll and BCS standings for the Bulls. They reached No. 23 after defeating No. 17 Auburn 26–23 in OT, No. 18 after defeating North Carolina 37–10, No. 6 after defeating No. 5 West Virginia 21–13, No. 5 after defeating FAU 35–23, and the team finally peaked at No. 2 after defeating UCF 64–12."

Imo, I feel that yes CBN still has a lot to prove "at this level" and I'm still in a wait and see mode with him too but so far dude has crushed every challenge placed in front of him.
