Still chilled. Part of the point. The lawsuits cost money, and will therefore distort accurate coverage in the future, so they succeeded in that goal

MAGA sheep were prematurely celebrating this dummy’s win too LOL! He must’ve used the same lawyer Trump used in all 500 of his failed election lawsuits.

The smirk on his face during the incident was all I needed to know.

Do you mean distort coverage back to accuracy? If those networks had accurately reported the incident in the first place there would not have been the lawsuits. But they immediately set out with a narrative of evil Maga kid and righteous indian.

Sort of agree but mostly disagree. Not all the media coverage was exactly equal. His lawsuits were against everyone (sans right leaning news). 2 media outlets settled. The others defended and won. Not sure if there is a broad brush to use on this one.

You could be right there. I just don’t remember seeing anything in the early days that was favorable to Sandman. Most the stories I saw portrayed him negatively.

Equally egregious was that they didn’t push back on Phillips, at least in the first days. Phillips was the aggressor, and yet Sandman was the one called out.

No, to intimidate media. They reported accurately on the limited clip, then corrected on their own without prompting when more became available. The suit was an attempt to intimidate.

Portraying MAGA types as evil will not always be correct, but it will more often than not. It is a movement that at its core is evil.

It’s not like similar conduct is not common. MAGA types have internalized a performative a-hole persona towards those they deem different. It was on display this past weekend at TPUSA

They made assumptions based on a limited clip. That is not the same thing as reporting accurately.

In my mind, neither was a physical or verbal aggressor. Black Israelites were the agitators. One group had a permit, others did not. That was always my distinction for right of way up the stairs unimpeded.

We will have to agree to disagree. It has been three years… I just went back and rewatched some of the clips. Wish I hadn’t. Didn’t do me any good or change my mind on the event.

The MAGA hats immediately polarized perceptions and reactions. They did mine, as well as a couple posters in this thread. However, whatever your political persuasion, you have to admit that was a world class smirk.

Once you experience one in real life, it’s hard to unsee it within others.

In my mind, one of the key facts even before getting the full clip was the fact that that was just a pick up and drop off site for the crew.

I’ve been to the Lincoln Memorial numerous times, it is probably my favorite American landmark. It is both a solemn place, but there’s also a lot of normal congregating, obnoxious, and political confrontations on the larger grounds. It’s also right next to perfect Drop off pick up places for buses, especially if large group has gone to an event at the Mall.

I presumed that the MAGA group had gone to the Lincoln Memorial to counterprotest the native groups that are often there. It turned out it was just a drop off and pick up. That made things look a lot different even before the larger clip was available.

Also when I found out it was an official grouping from a Catholic high school. There are some really right wing Catholic high schools and they can be very far Right. But they usually try to make sure their students behave. Of course there are those that do not come out but it would not be an organized thing and would be disciplined

How many of you actually read the link and the excerpts of the testimony and the Judge’s ruling? Because none of the comments mention them. Except the OP

I do agree with you that re-watching videos of the event doesn’t shed any more light or change my mind.

I think it would’ve been impeding if Sandman had moved into Phillips’ path, but it was the opposite. Phillips moved directly in front of Sandman. There was a clear path up the stairs to the right of Sandman. If Phillips really was retreating, as he claimed in multiple interviews, he could’ve easily veered to the right and continued up the stairs. It appears he wanted to confrontation.

The bottom line to me was always on one hand you have a 16-year-old high school kid and on the other hand you have a grown man Vietnam vet. The high school kid did nothing but stand there and smile, or smirk if you will, except for looking away to tell his friend not to engage the other Indian who began agitating. To me, the grown man should’ve known better and not provoked the confrontation.

But as you say, we’ll agree to disagree.

Provoked the confrontation and then lied about it.
