Matt Gaetz ridiculed an abortion-rights activist online. He inadvertently helped her raise over $115k to help women get abortions. Julianna told Insider that as of Tuesday night, her organization Gen-Z for Change raised over $115,000 in abortion funds within a 24-hour period. The money will go towards the Gen-Z for Choice Abortion Fund, which splits donations raised among 50 different abortion funds in states with abortion bans. "I am truly in awe of the amount of support that has come out of this," Julianna told Insider via email. "It is so extremely heartwarming to see the outpouring of support online and to know that the appalling attitude of Matt Gaetz has been turned into tangible support for abortion funds across the country." The public spat between Julianna and Gaetz began after a video circulated of the GOP representative body-shaming abortion rights activists during his speech at the Turning Point USA summit in Florida on Saturday. "Why is it that the women with the least likelihood of getting pregnant are the ones most worried about having abortions?" Gaetz said. "Nobody wants to impregnate you if you look like a thumb."
In other Matt Gaetz news. Matt Gaetz, under investigation for possible sex trafficking, was among 20 Republicans to vote against reauthorizing a sex-trafficking law Rep. Matt Gaetz was one of 20 Republicans who voted "no" to reauthorizing an anti-human trafficking law on Wednesday. The Frederick Douglass Trafficking Victims Prevention and Protection Reauthorization Act of 2022 was approved in the House for reauthorization with a massive majority of 401 votes to 20. The act combats human trafficking — particularly sex trafficking — through severe penalties for perpetrators and support services for victims. It first came into law as the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000, when it passed the House and Senate with almost no opposition, and has been reauthorized multiple times without significant challenge.
If we were all sitting around shooting the breeze and one of the guys said that, it would be funny. A member of congress standing in front of a microphone saying it is something completely different.
Wow, just a couple days later and they are over $500,000 raised. Teen triumphs over Matt Gaetz by raising $500k for abortion funds: "I win" Days after being publicly targeted by Rep. Matt Gaetz, Olivia Julianna has raised more than $500,000 for abortion funds. Julianna, a 19-year-old political strategist for Gen-Z for Change, launched the fundraiser for the youth-led nonprofit organization's abortion fund after being body-shamed by the Florida congressman on Twitter. Her fundraiser quickly gathered stream, and Julianna announced that it has now raised more than $500,000. "America, thank you. We have now raised half a million dollars for abortion funds across the country," she tweeted early on Thursday.
In my experience this is common. People like Tilly are rare these days. So much hate built into religion it's comical.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/2022/07/30/roger-stone-matt-gaetz-pardon-mueller/ As Roger Stone prepared to stand trial in 2019, complaining he was under pressure from federal prosecutors to incriminate Donald Trump, a close ally of the president repeatedly assured Stone that “the boss” would likely grant him clemency if he were convicted, a recording shows. At an event at a Trump property that October, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) predicted that Stone would be found guilty at his trial in Washington the following month but would not “do a day” in prison. Gaetz was apparently unaware they were being recorded by documentary filmmakers following Stone, who special counsel Robert S. Mueller III had charged with obstruction of a congressional investigation. “The boss still has a very favorable view of you,” said Gaetz, stressing that the president had “said it directly.” He also said, “I don’t think the big guy can let you go down for this.” Gaetz at one point told Stone he was working on getting him a pardon but was hesitant to say more backstage at the event, in which speakers were being filmed for online broadcast. “Since there are many, many recording devices around right now, I do not feel in a position to speak freely about the work I’ve already done on that subject,” Gaetz said.
Women Against Matt Gaetz rally ahead of Niceville High Academy Night NICEVILLE — With a scheduled visit by Congressman Matt Gaetz to Niceville High School just hours away, a group of women who are quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with held a Tuesday afternoon press conference to call upon him to stay away from young women. Samantha Hope Herring, who at the beginning of August founded "Women Against Matt Gaetz," urged the now 10,000 members of the group to write letters to the Office of Congressional Ethics asking the body to suspend Gaetz from congressional duties related to minors while he is being investigated for having sex with a 17-year-old girl.
Toxic masculinity. Not surprised that they couldn’t find credible witnesses. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2022/09/23/gaetz-no-charges-sex-trafficking/[/QUOTE]
They have the texts, they have the venmo receipts, they have him asking for a pardon for his sex crimes. Disappointing he won't face justice. I can see why women don't trust the system when people like him become members of congress with no apparent consequences for his actions.
Yeah, seems like there's evidence he intended to pay for sex. Maybe she is denying it happened, whether true or not. I don't know why her credibility would be at issue though assuming she's one of the witnesses being discussed. If a minor - at the time - says an adult had sex with them, I imagine there would typically be a charge absent some really strong exonerating evidence such as an alibi on the date of the alleged crime. Personally, I don't really care if someone wants to pay another consenting adult for sex. If he had sex with a minor, though, I think that's a much different issue. Also, public officials are a bit unique given the potential for them to be blackmailed, so I do appreciate that concern as well.
