    Viktor Bout - Wikipedia

Bout is a convicted arms dealer. He was convicted of conspiracy to kill US Citizens and officials. You can read more in the link above.

Birttney Griner is a US Citizen and professional basketball player. In February 2022, Griner was detained by Russian Customs after cartridges containing hashish oil were found in her luggage. She had been entering Russia to play with the Russian Premier League during the WNBA offseason. Her trial began on July 1, and she pled guilty to the charges.

Many are speculating that the Russians are wanting to make a "prisoner swap" with these two people.

So package deal, griner, Vogel and any other cannabis related detainee for the bad guy. Don't like freeing arms dealers but I'm sure someone else stepped up to take his place

I think they will try to get all of them if there is a swap, him being off the radar and not famous is probably better leverage for us anyways.

I voted no in the poll, but the reality is that there are reported negotiations going on to swap multiple Americans in Russian jails for 1 or more Russians currently held in the US. This is likely a much more palatable deal, even if Griner gets all of the headline attention.

CNN is reporting that the US has offered to swap the arms dealer for Griner and Whelan.

Don't trade for anyone. Break a law in a foreign country, do the time.

Griner was getting about 5X her WNBA salary to play in Russia. There goes that.

It's simple, respect the country you are visiting. They are not America.

No. He’s too dangerous given what he does. Certainly not just for Griner. You’d basically need to clear the deck of all Americans the state department considers illegally detained.

    Trade Trump instead.

To borrow from Lebron, why would she want to come back to the US, a country that is inherently racist and anti-LGBTQRSUVWXYZ?

She didn't rob a liquor store man. She did something you cant even get arrested for here in an airport and they are railroading her for leverage lol.

it certainly likely that she did something that either she or others in her position did most every time they went in the country, it being understood that there would be no issue. These are high-profile international athletes in competitions that it is in the Russians interest to promote generally. They probably also required a guilty plea just to cover this.

This time was different due to the geopolitical circumstances for outsider control. This happened because she was an American, and we should do it that way. To presume that she should be blamed is a stretch, in my opinion.

I don’t disagree that we should have equal outcry for him, but I don’t recall you going on a crusade to get him freed.
