Long but well sourced article. trump allies and RW orgs developing a database of who's been naughty and nice. Should trump win in 2024 they intend to purge 10-50K career service federal employees deemed less than loyal to trump (not the constitution mind you). This will be based on "Schedule F" executive order that will be reinstated (was in effect the last few months of 1st term) making those people subject to firing. Sure sounds like he is running. Even if he doesn't, this malevolent plan would likely be used by DeSantis. Garland needs to save our democracy. Just quoting 4 paragraphs does not do it justice. Inside Trump '25: A radical plan for Trump’s second term Trump signed an executive order, “Creating Schedule F in the Excepted Service,” in October 2020, which established a new employment category for federal employees. It received wide media coverage for a short period, then was largely forgotten in the mayhem and aftermath of Jan. 6 — and quickly was rescinded by President Biden. Sources close to Trump say that if he were elected to a second term, he would immediately reimpose it. Tens of thousands of civil servants who serve in roles deemed to have some influence over policy would be reassigned as “Schedule F” employees. Upon reassignment, they would lose their employment protections. America First Legal was launched by Trump’s influential senior adviser Stephen Miller less than three months after Trump left office. Its primary purpose was to file lawsuits to block President Biden’s policies — mirroring a well-funded legal infrastructure on the left. But Miller has also been doing another job in preparation for 2025 that has not previously been reported. He has been identifying and assembling a list of lawyers who would be ready to fill the key general counsel jobs across government in a second-term Trump administration. Trump’s close allies are intently focused on the recruitment of lawyers. Trump frequently complained that he did not have the “right” lawyers in the White House Counsel’s Office. Sharma is prescriptive about what gets a person on his list. He wants applicants who want to cut not just illegal but also legal immigration into the United States. He favors people who are protectionist on trade and anti-interventionist on foreign policy. They must be eager to fight the “culture war.” Credentials are almost irrelevant. One uniting theme connects all of these disparate groups: fealty, to Trump himself or his “America First” ideology.
Guys you can close the door on this boogeyman. Trump is not winning in 2024. He may not even win the primary. You are safe to sleep well at night without looking under the bed each time you wake to take a tinckle.
I never thought he had a chance in hell the first time. Yet here we are. The fact he could even sniff the White House again is insanity.
One of the main reasons America gets by no matter who is in charge is that you have a professional career civil service. I cant imagine firing tens of thousands of federal employees will do anything other than make the country incredibly dysfunctional and even more corrupt. Its amazing how much right-wingers are angling to kill the golden goose by putting Groyper134MAGA or MAGAKaren999 as SEC regulators or IRS staff, or whatever.
Good point. Having DOD, DOJ or IRS staffers with allegiance to trump and not the Constitution, truth, or what’s best for the country is disturbing and mostly what I took from the article
Clearly, they plan a purge of anyone who places country and the Constitution over fealty to der fuhrer Trump. No one should be surprised.
I know invoking Hitler can be fun, but people also don't seem to realize this is how the country was run during much of the 19th century. Its a general theme with these people taking us back to the 19th century. Spoils system - Wikipedia Pendleton Civil Service Reform Act - Wikipedia
Forget surprised... you have people still denying it could happen, and saying we're all crazy for worrying about it. Like the last few years didn't happen...
Oh my. Isn't that what happened when President Biden and his administration took office? House cleaning and identification of President Trump supporters in the government jobs. If I recall they actually put people on a black list.
Those were political appointees - btw DeJoy is still running USPS. He did not gut career civil service staffing.
It was more than political employees. As for the Post Master General as I recall that is not a political appointment. That position is selcted by a board that over sees USPS.
Yes on the board but the board has enough Biden appointees now to fire him if that’s what Joe wanted.
The scale we are talking about is totally different. Every president cleans house, what Trump is proposing is scorched earth burning the house down, not cleaning house.
There are a bunch that need firing, but not for this reason (not being a trump supporter). Government is a big bloated "jobs" program. I think 50% could be fired or let go, and the real people doing the actual work would still be "doing the work". This would still leave 20+ percent doing much of nothing and living off the tax payers.
Insane that people think this, but this is just the other side of the coin that thinks you can just replace 10-50k civil service jobs with campaign loyalists and expect everything will function as usual. I would say most agencies are understaffed as it is. The IRS can barely enforce the tax code as it is lol.
Trump placed unqualified, inexperienced loyalists in many jobs, including cabinet level. He appointed several judges who were so unqualified that they weren't even endorsed by conservative judicial groups. Loyalty always trumped qualifications.
Which gets to my point about many others being fired once heads of administrations change. As for DeJoy obviously he is not a problem and never was to begin with.
Invoking Hitler circa late 1920's/early 1930's is reasonable, given Trump led his brownshirts to try to stop the legal certification of his opponent who won by 8 million votes.
