A Republican lawmaker attended his gay son’s wedding just three days after joining the majority of his GOP colleagues in voting against a House bill that would codify federal protections for same-sex marriage.

The gay son of Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Pa., confirmed to NBC News on Monday that he “married the love of [his] life” on Friday and that his “father was there.” NBC News is not publishing the names of the grooms, neither of whom is a public figure.

Thompson’s press secretary, Maddison Stone, also confirmed the congressman was in attendance.

“Congressman and Mrs. Thompson were thrilled to attend and celebrate their son’s marriage on Friday night as he began this new chapter in his life,” Stone said in an email, adding that the Thompsons are “very happy” to welcome their new son-in-law “into their family.”

    Sounds about right.

What a stupid thread, as per usual for the OP.

First of all, Im all for gay marriage and LGBTQ rights and all that. Also, I'd like to point out that I have coop blocked so I didn't read the article but his shock and awe title sums it up fine.

Have you ever heard of... you may want to sit down for this one... doing what's right even if your belief system says otherwise? You know something like not missing your sons wedding because of your personal beliefs.

I get it though, anytime some of you have a chance you like to take a dump on the other side, unprovoked. Then you wonder why they hate you and still follow Trump. You perpetuate the whole "we vs them" thing. You're better off extending an olive branch than cutting them down. You may be surprised to see that if you talked to people or treated the other side human, you may have progress with bridging the divide in this country.

Oh but thats not fun.. it's more fun to take any opportunity you can to continue kicking the opposition while they are down. That only creates more hatred...

Feel free to continue though and expect different results. There's a word for that.

That’s funny. All people are asking is to be treated as human and by your own words this guy voted against what he knew was right in favor of his beliefs that do not even reflect the country’s wishes. And somehow the congressman is the good guy? Give me a break.

    Nope, wrong.

Im just saying, some people around here keep posting all these threads to shit on Republicans, coop is one of the worst. The only part of my response that was about the story specifically was this part below.

    upload_2022-7-25_22-53-14.png

I'm just saying, who gives a crap about this, why is this news? He's being a better parent than he is a person. Big deal. Voting against gay marriage is reprehensible but he showed up for his kid when it counted. What a BIG story this is... gtfoh

As for everything else in my post, it was generalizing and absolutely nothing to do with the story. Coop is one of the worst here at making inflamatory threads for no reason. Then some of you wonder why there is no real discourse in here and why the country continues to be divided. To be fair, this goes both ways sometimes but this forum is a liberal soap box and you guys use it to bash the other side instead of trying to bridge the gap. Do you want to be enemies forever? Isnt the point to gain members? How do you gain members if you only bash and throw flames at anyone who disagrees with you? Then on top of all that, you guys take this moral high ground for some reason as if you guys think you're the "good guys".

FWIW, I don't think you're one of the worst ones.

Agree. Stupid thread. This is about a father's love for his son, not about politics.

GOP is the party of self projection. If they’re against gay marriage, they probably have a gay son or can be caught messing with some dude at a gas station. If they’re calling someone pedos, they probably got CP on their hard drive.

He can be against gay marriage but still support his son's decision. I have no problem with him attending the wedding. I don't like this kind of reporting.

Cons don’t vote/impose their belief system on others, big gov. Ever heard the term, don’t tread on me? I’d guess no.

Huh, he just voted to make people like his son second-class citizens. I wonder how many people agreeing with your logic would maintain it if the congressman is against abortion and supported his daughter’s decision to have an abortion?

So you're saying he should skip his sons wedding? That would be better?

    Bizarre.

No, I’m against his vote which was clearly not based on any closely held conviction nor the electorate’s wishes.

It’s a perfectly relevant thread. It’s like voting against choice and then driving your daughter to a clinic for an abortion. It’s bullshit. The loser wants to deny rights he wants his son to enjoy. His kid should stand up and throw dad out.

    Hypocrisy at its finest.

It’s about hypocrisy. It’s about what a joke the Republican Party has become. It’s a show.

This is like the Strom Thurmond, who was at the time a father of mixed-race daughter, voting against the Civil Rights Act. How can you claim to truly love your child if you don't believe they're entitled to equal rights? Either the man does believe his son deserves equal rights and didn't vote his conscience, or he doesn't believe his son deserves equal rights and deserves condemnation for that.

Simple. Personally he supports his son. Politically he represents his constituents and votes accordingly.
    Not a hard concept.

My youngest son married the most woke liberal woman you will ever see. Sierra goes unbelievably overboard. I haven't been able to hold my 2 year old grandson because of covid. Yet when something breaks down and she has to call a repairman she asks me to mask up and come meet the repair man because she does not want her and the kids to be around anybody. My son has to work a phone tech job because she doesn't want him around people. I went to their wedding knowing we would never see eye to eye on anything.
