Because you're a highly educated college grad who I would think could think on their own, but maybe not

What do you think the distance to Jupiter should be?

Probably does. I passed on making mid six figures per year in my profession to do work that helps people. I'm not driven by a desire to be wealthy.

If the conversation is asking whether every person should go to college, the answer is no. Some people are better served going a different route (whether that's trade school or starting their own business or something else).

If the conversation is asking whether college is a scam that seeks to indoctrinate young people with progressive and anti-American ideology, the answer is that it's not a serious conversation. Because that's a laughable supposition. All Charlie Kirk is seeking to do is make money off of a culture war (by selling his book) and give people harmful advice in the process.

Not just picking you out of this thread but it seems the libbies are out in force once again and piling on with the usual belligerence.
I think the OP is a good topic and it makes a decent case for current times. The bachelors degree seems diminished in significance more so than in years past. I’m not so sure everyone should go rushing out to grab just any degree. There are more assholes running around with biz and liberal arts degrees than ever. I don’t think they hold the weight that it used to, but I could be wrong.
No need to crap on the OP when the case not to go to college is not at all that crazy any more.

There's quite the difference between what you said and what the OP posted. "College is a scam" and "do anything besides college."

Post silly threads, get silly responses.

It depends. If you are getting a liberal arts degree, you will have the foundation for a good job but it's on you to find it. But with a STEM degree, companies find you. I can tell you even at 57 I'm still having recruiters call me daily for new opportunities. I find that for a seasoned software engineer, I still have to prove myself. The technical interviews are by far more complex than in the past. You really have to apply what you learned in college in ways college doesn't prepare you for. For example, I'm working on securing a 1 year contract as senior Java Developer with the Air Force out of Huntsville. My 1st test had 2 parts - design and develop a Spring Boot application using Java that applies the Sieve of Eratosthenes that computes all of the prime numbers between 0 and a number you enter. That UI has to be written in React. It has to use many object-oriented design principles including several well known design patterns and be fully functional. One hour time limit. The next question was to take an existing architecture and explain the class diagram when certain changes are made, specifically taking a simple Employee class and adding the capability of part-time workers. One hour time limit. No pressure, right? It's getting really hard to just walk into a job interview and talk your way into a job. Of course, that is the next step if they like what you wrote; what the fit is for both sides. This could then turn into as many as 5 more interviews before acceptance. Not many college grads are ready for this. Most grads hardly even had a job that required more than filling out an application.
