Seems like a slanted article ... can someone explain to me how government subsidies and taxes on EV milage have any affect on pollution? From the article ...

By quantifying the externalities (both greenhouse gases and local air pollution) generated by driving these vehicles, the government subsidies on the purchase of EVs, and taxes on electric and/or gasoline miles, researchers found that “electric vehicles generate a negative environmental benefit of about -0.5 cents per mile relative to comparable gasoline vehicles (-1.5 cents per mile for vehicles driven outside metropolitan areas).”

I'd also point out it talks about battery waste being a problem -- which it is -- but makes not mention of the environmental and health damage done by drilling, mining, fracking, spills, air pollution, etc ...

Theoretically, we could move to a society that's largely EVs and renewable energy powering homes, businesses, and cars ... and be a hell of a lot cleaner than we are now.

Oh, and that second source is a study from 2015 ... not exactly some new break through research. Not sure why the article calls it a "new study".

Tesla does have the reputation of having some QC issues. I think that’s a manufacturer specific problem. Doesn’t have much to do with the drivetrain. There is no reason for an EV to be less reliable, if anything it requires less maintenance and should be more reliable. Tesla relies too much on software and over the air updates imo. A lot of their issues have to do with that.

What in the world is that website? Clicking on some of the other links to "news", it honestly looks like the work of the National Enquirer owners uncovering lizard people running our government. Except, that story is more possible than the cr@p that is at that website.

More so than the Fossil Fuel Cultists? Though your post was, among other things, snarky, my question isn't. Electric cars aren't the ultimate answer, but they are better for the environment than gasoline powered vehicles until we can find a better solution. I think so many are so politicized that they fail to see the danger the planet is in due to CO2 emissions. The lead story on NPR is about a huge chunk of Antarctica about to break off and what that portends for sea level. This should NOT be a democrat or republican issue.

Battery Disposal and lithium mining for battery manufacture is a problem, however electric vehicles are improving every year. I have a golf cart which i use a few times a week to travel to a golf course and play golf. I just upgraded my battery to a Roypow lithium 106ah - no filling with water (like lead batteries), 3000+ charging cycles, and 40 to 50 mile range on one charge. It may allow me to get rid of one of my cars. For people that don't have experience with electric vehicles, politics aside, it's a real pleasure to take advantage of updated technology.

How Long Does an Electric Car Battery Last?

So the question remains: How long can you expect your EV battery to last? Fortunately for consumers, the government mandates EV manufacturers to warranty batteries for 8 years or 100,000 miles, while California extends that warranty to 10 years or 150,000 miles.

How Long Does an Electric Car Battery Last? | EV Connect — EV Connect

Something tells me that we are NOT ready to start recycling these dead EV car battery packs in a safe and environmentally friendly way. See this video below.

Why it's so hard to recycle electric-car batteries

That is what I thought, How much of these batteries are recyclable and what do you do with what is left?

The recycling problem is something science can and probably will figure out…. But one battery pack every 8-10 years per car seems like a minor problem compared to how much pollution and carbon gas cars produce over that time period, about 50 tons per car.

It’s something like 3 billion tons of carbon per year worldwide and transportation accounts for the largest percentage of carbon, even greater than electricity or industrial production.
