Charlie Kirk calls higher education a 'scam' in new book: Do 'anything but college' | Fox News
Kirk, in his new book "The College Scam," says colleges and universities are filled with "far-left professors" who use their classrooms to "force anti-American and progressive ideologies onto students."

"The premise of the book is that, you know, regardless of your walk of life, if you are a parent or a grandparent or a student, there must be an agreed upon consensus that higher education has become a scam," Kirk told Fox News on Monday.

"I would say, very bluntly, that maybe if you want to become a doctor or a lawyer or an accountant or an engineer — which, by the way, is a huge minority of people that go to colleges — maybe you should go to college but pick the right one," Kirk continued. "But the vast majority of kids, the vast majority kids that go to college, shouldn't be there at all."

"The worst thing you can do is go borrow money ahead of time when you’re not really sure what sort of skill you want to have," Kirk said. "And the other thing is that a vast majority of Fortune 11 companies have said that the kids that are coming out of college, their vocabulary skills, their writing, their work ethic is so bad that the college degree means almost next to nothing.

My parents wouldn't agree with this even though my dad ran his own business and was very successful and turned it over to my brother and is doing great.
My wife went to college for and didn't care for the job after 4 years of school, but I didn't instead I worked for a large company for 17 years, then went into business for myself along with my wife and after 15 years in business we sold and retired.
I truly believe if a person is passionate and a hard worker, they can achieve what they want.

If its a 'scam,' its an extremely capitalist one in which they get you to pay lots of money for something that has been deeply commodified that should be free to all. I'm guessing thats not what the TPformybumholeUSA guy is saying.

A college degree is worth, on average, a million dollars more than not having a college degree. Still a great deal. I do remind the young people in my circle of influence that if they are borrowing money to pay for college, then they need to make their decisions about what they study with an eye on how they are going to pay back the money, but I tell everyone that has the grades to get into a good school that they should go to college.

You can be successful without it, but you have to work way harder to get there.

    Nonsense.

It’s a good idea to refrain from taking on too much debt for college, unless you are damn sure about the career path being relatively lucrative. But demonizing the college experience is pandering to an audience who resents professionals and educated folks. It’s especially silly on a UF forum. What he’s saying might apply to some high priced (but underperforming) private college or for-profit sham colleges. Doesn’t really apply to an above avg to excellent state school (like UF) which can be done with little to no debt.

They have a new movie, BTW, called Beavis and Butthead Do the Universe streaming on Paramont+, it was actually pretty good, although basically the same jokes and same plot as their first movie.

Even Liberal Arts degrees have a lifetime ROI and is worth even the highest cost. And I've always said the most important lessons I learned during college were everything I learned outside the classroom, and the value of finishing something I started, which is the degree itself. And just having a degree helps, even if it's not in the field where you work. I have a BA in History, and have been working in Marketing for a long time now. Doing just fine for myself, and my degree has certainly helped. Got my start doing Market Research.

My current job has tuition reimbursement, and I now have a MBA in Marketing, and could probably make a little more. But I'm happy, have good life balance at my current position, and certainly not struggling to put food on the table. Recently turned down a job that paid a little more, but the money wasn't worth it in my opinion.

College isn’t for everyone. Lots of people are better off in a trades or hustling. It’s just the way the world goes around.

WTH. Now everybody's using facts and numbers and graphs and crap, almost like having a degree can make one discerning and critically knowledgeable. Charlie Kirk? Be Better.

Going into significant debt for college ought to be scrutinized closely. But I have a curious nature and wanted to learn things that only college could offer. Went to a small liberal arts college that cost about $150/qtr for tuition and got an awesome education (if you ignore the Organic Chem grades). Never regretted it.
Innovation is important to the strength of a nation, and education is important for innovation and Charlie Kirk is a lying asshole.

Have you ever owned your own business? If so, was you successful?

Look I know college can be good for a lot and yes, some college grads make unbelievable money. There's also a lot that their degree wasn't worth the money, yes even from UF. Most schoolteachers would agree with what they make compared to what paid was a waste.

Look at realtors, pavement contractors, landscapers, service industry, mom and pop stores etc some of them make extremely good pay. I never went to college and owned my business and was able to retire after 3o0plus years in the industry but only owned my business for only 15 years
