Ordinary people living in the Weimar Republic. As their country changes. The show captures this better than the movie.

My daughter has promoted Cabaret for the same reasons. By the way, I recognize a younger Adam Godley who is brilliant as the Orthodox Patriarch in “The Great”, itself a bit of a genius work

The first time I ever saw Alan Cumming was in his bit part as a hotel clerk in "Eyes Wide Shut." It's a marvelous performance and I wondered who he was.

I've never seen "Cabaret" and knew nothing about it other than it stars Liza Minnelli. (I've never been much into musicals.) I looked it up on Wikipedia, and I wondered if "Tomorrow Belongs to Me," sung by Nazis, is a song we might be hearing in America today. So I looked up "Tomorrow Belongs to Me." Sure enough, according to Wikipedia the song has "at times been adopted by right-wing, neo-Nazi, and alt-right groups as an anthem."

The show I linked is a stage performance; not a movie

I know. I was just saying I never saw the movie, much less the stage play.
