Yes, you should have to pay for security. The police are not private security for hire by you, or the local church or anyone else. If you want to pay off duty police to stand there in uniform, great. Special Olympics AZ pays off duty police to help at their events. I know because I used to arrange it when I lived in Arizona.
I'm fine with that pov, but he was singling out churches. It's like people think the church is made up of non tax payers.
A single person making less tha 12,500 doesnt pay Federal (or State income taxes in our state) Married filing jointly is $25,100 I believe So should they have those taxes withheld, they would be refunded. There are also tax free situations for disabled and elderly people meeting certain criteria. One recent study showed that 57% of American households paid no income tax. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/25/57p...paid-no-federal-income-tax-in-2021-study.html
But if the local PD is willing to work at the Special Olympics event due to the size of a crowd, you have an issue with that? I mean those people are just in one place. Large crowds are where the people are. Thats where the cops should be. It's community. It's important. Why would the PD not take part in protecting a high volume of the community in such crazy times? The people at the Special Olympics event are already paying for police protection with tax dollars, why take money from their mission?
But everyone has social security and medicare withheld from their check starting with the first dollar.
it is an extremely sad state of affairs in this country that churches, schools and other mainstream events need armed security to attend. Not sure exactly how we got here nor a clue how to fix it. But here we are.
There’s plenty of folks on welfare or living off child support, or working under the table. None of which are taxed. Not to mention those receiving SS benefits below a taxable level. You’re saying all these “unicorns” are “hiding in churches”?
But those dont theoretically fund police. I think what gets lost here is that police are there to serve the public and all these places are is large taxpaying groups of the public. The special olympics may be tax exempt, but all the people attending the event and working for the Special Olympics still pay for police protections via tax dollars. Some folks here act like Executive directors or managers... Or pastors are somehow exempt from taxes. People seem to confuse the entity from the humanity. All of the humans pay taxes. I am fine if a non profit, charity or church pays for its security, but also fine if the local municipal authorities feel it is a worthwhile expenditure.
You are confusing 2 things Tilly. If an event is so large that it is creating a public nuissance, disturbing traffic or otherwise having an effect on the normal operation of a community, then yes, law enforcement should be present to try to mitigate the impacts on the society. NOT act as personal security. There is a HUGE mega-phony Church in our neighborhood. It seats nearly 1000 people. Getting all of those cars in and out of the parking areas creates a HUGE public nuissance and in the past resulted in numerous accidents as people have been frustrated trying to get to and from their homes through mass traffic. Greensboro PD began controlling traffic with the aim of increasing public safey. However, once the traffic is settled, they leave. Two hours later they come back and set up for the mass traffic that is leaving the service. That is how it should work. In the 2.5 hours in between, tax payers are not paying for the police department to act as private security for the church or its members.
So, when they spend money there is no tax on any transactions because those dollars are coming form government assistance or social security? Wow, where does that happen, because I would like to move there. Also, is it your asssertion that there is some magical neighborhood out there where no one works, no one pays any taxes and yet government services are provided? Can you send the address??
"Phony"? Because you disagree? I go to a 1000 member church. Am I a phony too? Does our church fake feed the homeless, fake shelter the needy, fake rebuild after a storm? Anywho, the people are paying taxes for cops. The world is messed up. Putting cops in places where people are targets just seems like good police work to me. The non profit status of an entity doesnt mean the humans there are non taxpayers.
No, because the founder has already been found embezzling money from the flock when he was supposedly sending money overseas to help the poor. But it is ok now, he apologized and actually sold his hoome in Aruba to prove it. People are not phony, just stupid. He is a phony POS though.
You are moving the goal posts. You added "withdrawn from their checks" in your post above....that would mean income tax. We showed you that 57% of people pay no income taxes and you moved on to sales tax. As for sales taxes SNAP is basically tax free.
