Tony Livingston not qualifying for fall?

Saw on some dawg board when I just Google it...of course they were making fun of us, saying they have never had a class as bad..and they were going to beat us like "a redheaded stepchild" what a JA group of fans

 

Yeah, I think he's the only 2022 player who hasn't shown up on campus at this point. I've mentioned this before and only got one response saying don't worry until August. Things have been very quiet around him, which is often not a good sign. Not even so much as a peep about "finishing that last math class."

 

It's crazy that with the biggest goal.i. these kids life standing right in front of them with in arms reach amd they don't go scorched earth with their school requirements, living eating and sleeping school. It seems like the requiring stuff really distracts a lot of these kids and causes them to assume they've already made it.

Yes indeed. I watched my daughter go from majoring in cheerleading to ‘scorched earth’ on classwork and grades when she realized she wasn’t going to get into the university she wanted if she didn’t. It was a wonderful thing to watch because it was all self-motivation.

 

Unfortunately somewhat true. Mullen and his crew were poor recruiters. Have to beat them on the field.

 

I seem to remember a few signees in the past needing to catch up on core courses over the summer. It's certainly understandable to get a little behind after starring in two sports. FWIW, he's the least ready of the three incoming TEs. I definitely want him on campus for two-a-days but I'm not going to fret much. The players who take the longest route to Gainesville have often been worth the wait.

 

Seems they, and the likes of bama, fsu, miami, never have the same problem with their signed recruits, who suddenly take a bunch of online courses and magically qualify.

Not saying we should help these guys cheat, but don't we have someone checking in on them and their grades, pushing and suggesting tutors and extra help? Caring a little more than apparently anyone else has for them.

I have a friend whose son had a scholarship to play baseball at a directional school. Son didn't have any delusions about playing MLB, just happy to get college paid for and become a small town baseball coach. He was celebrating that his son's educational and career goals were handled and on cruise control, all the kid had to do was keep his nose clean and those parts of his life were handled. Blew off a required math class he didn't pass earlier, didn't graduate high school on time, didn't get the scholarship, didn't go to college. Had the cheat code for his life already signed and sealed, but couldn't be bothered to put in 10 hours a week for a month to make it so. (the kid is doing fine, did a lot of growing up that summer, but he is playing life on a higher difficulty level now)

 

Seems to always be "that Math class" used to teach Math before I got my degrees in counseling

 

My wife taught middle school science. She saw a shift in learning during her teaching career. Parents opted out of parenting and certain children simply stopped doing homework. Kids also opted out of challenging math and science classes in favor of easier classes designed solely to progress or advance kids from grade level to grade level and create the illusion of a higher HS grad rates. My wife told me about a middle school star basketball player who told her during class, “you can’t teach me anything I need to know”. He told her he was going to play in the NBA without understanding the statistical probability of that occurring. He never even made it to college. Sad stories, but the parents are absent or often have the same foolish outlook as the kids. They are even purposely starting their kids a year late in school to increase their athletic chances of success. Crazy times.

Doesn't look like Tony made it for fall. Here's hoping he finds his way to Gainesville soon. Maybe he shows up in January and plays some hoops.

 

Obviously not a good sign if he's not in camp but classes still don't start for 3 more weeks so maybe he can still make it, if it's online classes? He would be behind the 8 ball on the depth chart but hopefully can still get a season of practices under his belt

 

Could go JUCO or prep school and be recruited again down the road or await another test score or take online classes to improve GPA. Will be interested to see if he makes it in for spring. Helps with overall ship numbers, but I think academic non qualifiers still count against your annual signing class max now.

 

They used to but the NCAA did away with the signing cap, at least going forward

 

I don't think he was getting on the field this fall anyway. Too much depth at TE, including the other two freshmen who have more experience playing the position. I believe Tony played OT last season.

 

I believe we never see him on a football field, because he intends to devote his energy on B-Ball instead.
