So is unconscionably high bail. Are you suggesting he should be held in jail until trial? You have to look at the charges. The problem here is what the DA charged, not what the judicial system didn't do. It seems the feds have stepped in and filed the correct charges.

Y'all want to hear something funny? I just found out who the DA is here. It's Sandra Doorley, a Republican who works as a Co-Chair for the ZELDIN CAMPAIGN.

Cash bail is a stupid system we should have done away with years ago. Either use pretrial detention to hold people or let them out on unsecured surety bonds with appropriate nonmonetary conditions. We should not tie liberty to wealth.

Bullshit. You’ve conveniently omitted the death threats against Sotomayor and the Obama appointed judge in Jersey whose son was killed and husband seriously wounded in a home attack because of one of her rulings. And let’s not forget Gaby Gifford to go along with Steve Scalise.

You also forgot to mention that the guy who came to the DC area (Maryland to be exact) with the intent to kill Brett Kavanaugh in effect surrendered to the authorities before he actually made an attempt to take the life of the justice.

In NYC "no bail" is a punishment. It leaves you no way to get out of paying rent for the next 3 months.

Sorry for the delayed reply, while it's arguable as to whether a person who attempted to assault a politician with a knife should be released without bail, based on the law in New York the person would have been released whether the subject of the attack was a Republican or a Democrat, even one you apparently love to hate like AOC.
Edit: Apparently the "weapon" was a keychain not a knife.

Turns out the attacker was a drunk Iraqi war veteran who thought the military was being disrespected. I’d be surprised if he was a liberal, much less a liberal activist.

According to the criminal complaint filed Saturday, Jakubonis, an Iraqi War Army veteran, allegedly told authorities he had consumed whiskey on the day of the campaign event and "must have checked out" as he walked on the stage and asked if Zeldin was disrespecting veterans. Jakubonis told authorities he did not know who Zeldin was at the time.

She's completely incompetent, yes but it's disgusting for you to suggest this is because of her ethnic background, I prefer not to associate with hateful people like yourself

I guess I could be considered a hateful person as I hate Trump, Putin, DeSantis, the Ayatollas, Assad and similar people. Regardless, please educate me as to what makes Kamala Harris a complete incompetent.

Loughner wasn't a Democrat. (Your link doesn't even claim he's a Democrat. It appears you added that in.) He was an Independent. And his views (to the extent they were coherent) were anti-government and conservative in nature. He was also a paranoid schizophrenic.

His weapon was a keychain. The man you wish was summarily executed served this country and lost his wife. He has reportedly been struggling with mental health issues due to that. It saddens me how gung ho some of you get about killing other people.
What we know about Lee Zeldin attacker David Jakubonis
The mental state of a New York man who allegedly attacked Congressman Lee Zeldin dramatically worsened following the decorated vet’s discharge from the Army and the death of his wife, The Post has learned.

David Jakubonis, 43, of Fairport, spiraled into a “rapid decline” in the aftermath of the death of his wife, Candyce, and his medical discharge in 2012, a former neighbor told The Post on Friday.

“He’s going through some kind of mental break,” said the neighbor, who asked not to be identified due to fears of reprisal. “He became more and more detached over the years after his wife died.”
