The bill attempted to codify all contraception as a RIGHT, including condoms. 195 Republicans voted against that being a human right and would have the states decide whether your neighbors could dictate if you are allowed to use birth control or practice safe sex. Deplorable.
I used to trumpet state's rights. Sadly, it has now become mostly something that the fearful & ignorant freedom haters use to create more big gov. Ex. Marriage should be a state thingy. NO! it should not have a damn thing to do with the government. NOTHING. A license to get married??!?! so stupid.
These are the countries that have outlawed contraception. Mozambique, Chad, Cameroon, Kyrgyz Republic, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Sri Lanka. USA, USA, USA!
Read it here ~ Text - H.R.8373 - 117th Congress (2021-2022): To protect a person’s ability to access contraceptives and to engage in contraception, and to protect a health care provider’s ability to provide contraceptives, contraception, and information related to contraception.
The following link has a breakdown of the vote, the party affiliation of each representative who voted or not voted, and who copped to "present." Roll Call 385 Roll Call 385, Bill Number: H. R. 8373, 117th Congress, 2nd Session
One interesting thing you said here was the primal, pre-rational lizard brain part. I have always assumed, maybe incorrectly, that human inner demons, shame, or guilt about sexual desire was probably taught. Is there evidence of this elsewhere among primates? Or maybe I’m misunderstanding that point. Great post either way.
How this has even become a controversy is beyond astounding. R’s obsession with your minute to minute life is psychotic.
So I was right. This bill protects POST conception contraceptives which is why many have an issue with it. This isnt about condoms at all. Why cant people just be honest?
Where does the bill say post conception? Text - H.R.8373 - 117th Congress (2021-2022): To protect a person’s ability to access contraceptives and to engage in contraception, and to protect a health care provider’s ability to provide contraceptives, contraception, and information related to contraception. Why can't people read?
That would be the "emergency contraceptives". Which absolutely need to be available if abortion isn't.
I think emergency contraceptives, as the name implies, prevents "conception". "Post conception contraceptives" may very well be an oxymoron. Emergency contraception
Contraception products are a product/service not a right. The fact that laws are trying to be passed to protect/ban is crazy.
This law stipulates that contraception itself is a right. As such, access to products that support contraception shall not be unduly impeded by the government.
Fun fact. "Contraception" is derived from "contra (ie against) conception". So "post conception contraceptives" is indeed nonsense phrase.
They generally work by preventing implantation, which takes place after fertilization. Conception is a process, not a single instant. Far too many of those who claim life begins at conception don't understand the process of conception. What they really mean, if you can get them to articulate their position in more detail, is that life begins at fertilization (meaning that over 50% of new lives are ended naturally before conception is completed). This leads to stupid things like banning all contraceptives because some of them prevent fertilized eggs from implantation.
