I know someone who was impeached twice that you’d probably vote for tomorrow.

The recall vote was almost identical in turnout and % for Newsome as his 2018 election. Not many changed their minds. It was a giant waste of time and money. The hacks were the ones who did the wasting.

Trying to equivocate a Texas abortion law as an example for, and to pass, a new restrictive a gun law in California is not going to do well in my humble opinion.

He cannot sue Texas for their abortion laws (NO STANDING) so this is what he comes up with?

If it’s ok for someone in Texas to receive $10,000 for ratting out someone who performs an illegal abortion, why is it not ok in California for someone to receive $10,000 for ratting out the manufacture of illegal guns? Both underlying acts are illegal in their respective states.

What’s the substantive difference other than partisan politics? And please don’t tell me that manufacturing illegal guns is protected by the 2A.

Regardless of the legal niceties, it’s a brilliant move that highlights the hypocrisy of those who go full bore against abortions and raise hardly a peep about gun violence. Seeing a democrat play GOP dirty politics will rally the left. We could be like Italy if we keep this up.

Ironic that the words “no standing” are mentioned. As if any and every Tom Dick and Harry in TX has any standing regarding someone who assists another get an abortion.

How do you completely ignore the fact that 2A specifically in our constitution, prohibits any form of government from disarming the people of the United States? It’s the same thing for our first amendment.
There is no such amendment giving anyone the right to an abortion which is why it’s up to each state.

I’m not ignoring that fact at all. It simply doesn’t apply here. Like I said earlier, it’s a red herring.

The California law does nothing against people with guns, it simply allows the payment of vigilante rewards to people who turn in gun makers for making them in violation of California law.

And to date the provisions of the Cali statutes against the making of illegal guns have not been found violative of the Constitution. No different than the abortion statute in Texas is now no longer violative of the Constitution with Roe overturned. Legally, there’s simply no difference between the two unless and until the underlying statute in Cali has been found unlawful. Hell, what’s to stop a state from issuing speed guns and give vigilante rewards for people who turn in speeders? It’s all cut from the same cloth of logic-giving someone a reward for turning in law breakers.

So while everyone on the right largely finds Newsome an idiot (I find him more hypocritical than stupid, hence the recall), he’s simply making a finer point here and I suspect his overall goal ultimately is to have a court find that these vigilante rewards are themselves unlawful, which he can then use as a marketing tool in other states when he runs for President in 2024. Just my $0.02.

You have to take off your partisan lens and look objectively at the underlying legal substance of what he did.
