And let's also not forget gerrymandering which has given Republicans a disproportionate percentage of representatives in the House of Representatives as well as many state legislatures.
Curious… are the rank and file Republicans watching the 1/6 hearings? Do you all believe it’s a complete sham? I feel like it’s impossible to just discount all these Republican witnesses from Trump’s inner circle, but I feel like the people who need to see this most are ignoring it out of spite. I could be wrong.
Gillespie was a front man for the Koch agenda. Lower taxes on the wealthy, ease up environmental regulations so industry can pollute without consequence. Koch Brothers Come To The Aid Of Their Man In Virginia, Ed Gillespie The Kochs, whose conglomerate operates oil refineries and gas pipelines, are spending big to support their one-time political consultant, Gillespie, while also ensuring that his Democratic opponent Ralph Northam does not take office.
PerSeGator had a good point in another thread; Desantis needs to strike when he’s hot and run in 2024. 6+ years is a long time to wait and if he will still be as popular. Especially as crazy as politics is getting. Not to mention personally for him - life could be very different in 6 yrs.
Actually, the law doesn't ban teachers from discussing sex with children, only sexual orientation and gender identity. Those aren't the same things as sex. That was already illegal. What he actually criminalized was attending a protest where violence or looting happened, regardless of whether you were involved or not. The law was so constitutionally flawed that Ed Carnes, a conservative Alabama Republican on the Eleventh Circuit, was openly mocking DeSantis's attorney's argument. The law will likely get sent to the Florida Supreme Court for a narrowing construction so that it no longer violates the First Amendment. A federal judge ruled that DeSantis and his cronies in the legislature passed a voter suppression law that intentionally discriminates against Black people. It's also a lot easier for him to violate their constitutional rights, as he has repeatedly done during his time as governor. He is our version of Viktor Orban.
Hahaha ok… it’s absolutely amazing how delusional some people can be. He still has over 50% approval rating in his state. The agitators are gone because it’s been dealt with.
-- Every state has ideas banned that someone doesnt like. Because (newsflash) some things should be banned based on age appropriateness -- Protest alone is not criminalized. -- oooh an "enemies" list. What hyperbolic nonsense.
Here come the excuses. How about DeSantis imposing viewpoint discrimination on educators at state universities? Yes, it is. That's why a federal court struck the law down. We've already seen him repeatedly violate the rights of people on his enemies list: Disney, the LGBTQ community, educators, racial justice protesters, social media companies, etc. Keep making excuses for his disregard of the Constitution.
Selective enforcement by DeSantis. Cuban protesters can block highways because DeSantis wants their votes. "Woke" math books? WTF!
Depend on the EC in the long run? They made it that way on purpose. So all states would have a say in the governance of the US.
My bad. Had a bad day and took it out on you. You didn’t deserve that. My apologies. I’m used to people being rude here and didn’t look closely at who posted.
I haven’t watched one minute. It’s a dog and pony show to me. I hope trump somehow gets indicted. Trump is the only way dems can win in 24.
You don't need to watch the 1/6 hearings to feel sour about the way Trump left office. There was plenty in the news cycle informing us as things happened live to know enough about what happened.
@murphree_hall This is correct, and this is why a lot of Republicans aren't watching. Add that to the feeling of institutional disrespect from Democrats and double standards perceived by Republicans and it's only going to be harder to get them to watch. None of this means that nothing informative has or can come from these hearings, but the more of a "dog and pony show" this is, the easier it is for Republicans to write off the whole thing. Give the appearance of an actual legal proceeding as opposed to a political one, and you're more likely to get people on the other side to watch. In my case, I don't have that kind of time, so I'd rather read about it, even if it's from the New York Times or the Washington Post, which I consider to be liberal, yet reliable.
I hated this too. lol. I hate when anybody blocks traffic, and this is a cause I am particularly sympathetic towards.
