Not defending him just pointing out the way you guys tend to pile on without really knowing the whole situation.

Sunrise police sergeant who grabbed fellow officer’s neck arrested, charged

SUNRISE, Fla. – A Sunrise police officer caught on video putting his hands on another officer’s throat was arrested Thursday on multiple charges, including battery on a police officer. Christopher Pullease, 47, was also charged with tampering with evidence, plus separate charges of assault on an officer and assault.

Sunrise Police Chief Anthony Rosa went on to say in a written statement that, “Once the suspect was inside the patrol vehicle, the sergeant approached and engaged in a verbal altercation with the suspect in a manner that I feel was inappropriate and unprofessional. This supervisor escalated the encounter instead of de-escalating an emotionally charged situation.”

That’s when a nearby officer who was concerned with things escalating further intervened. Pullease then turns and aggressively grabs the officer by the neck while pushing her backwards. Sgt. Pullease is then seen on video going back to the squad car and slamming the door before pointing and yelling back at the officer who was trying to deescalate the situation.

Sunrise police released a statement following Pullease’s arrest Thursday evening: “The sergeant is accused of intentionally touching or striking the female police officer against her will, assaulting her by holding pepper spray up to her face, and assaulting the civilian male by holding pepper spray to his face,” it said, in part. “If convicted, the maximum possible penalties are five years in state prison for felony battery on a law enforcement officer, one year for assaulting a law enforcement officer, and 60 days for assault on a civilian.” The statement went on to say that Pullease “is also accused of tampering with evidence, his cellphone, in January of this year. If convicted, the maximum possible penalty is five years in state prison.”

Glad they arrested this abusive, evidence-tampering psycho. How does someone like this become a police sergeant? I think a stint in the slammer will do him some good and send a message to other psycho cops out there.

Apparently. That female officer had more courage than the rest of the cowards standing around.

It’s probably a dumb domestic dispute and tacked on drug charge. Black guy always without a shirt and 100 cops ready to kill him. The machismo brigade protecting and serving.

A minor thing. What’s your opinion of the larger issue?

from a hand to hand/ fighting standpoint. I find both sides interesting. A single handed choke required the most basic of defenses to defeat and the single handed choke is also about the last thing a trained aggressor would do. so it’s a head scratcher from both sides. makes me think both of them were severely lacking in how to handle
    Up close physical contact.

I remember thinking something similar. May have been more an effort to assert dominance on his part because his ego was bruised. Which in a way, may actually be worse.

I applaud her effort. It took courage, but if I was her and doing some self scouting, I would get back on the mat for some hand to hand training. Next time the bad guy might not stop and just push you away.

Florida could be an exception- I don't know. But Sam Harris had a good podcast with Rener Gracie in which Rener explained that law enforcement officers around the country receive very little hand-to-hand/grappling training. It certainly shows on a lot of viral videos.

She was a non-aggressor because the adversary was a fellow LEO. She handled the situation properly, with no need to fight this particular combatant.

i train with some up here in the ATL. Some take it serious and do a fantastic job, unfortunately the training is very time consuming and
Most just don’t have the time and resources to commit and are woefully prepared.

Any of the Gracie's would have yolked that big cop out. I saw a video of an officer using some BJJ on a suspect and was amazed. If I had a kid, and they wanted to take Karate or Judo or something like that, I would do my best to steer them towards BJJ.

I wasn’t able to see the entire video, I am certainly not advocating a fight/ brawl. My point was a hand to throat is a very basic threat / posture and her initial reaction was
Not what you see in people that have trained properly and are prepared. As I stated in the beginning she had a boatload of courage even trying…and i applaud that. She clearly has some grit. but I would def use it as a learning tool for additional training.

karate and the like are excellent for younger kids to learn discipline. Yes sir type stuff. as they get older BJJ is fantastic, it just requires a LOT of time and very technical. People train for 15+ years to achieve black belt.

Yep. I would tell people BJJ and boxing or Muay Thai for striking. I used to enjoy the high kicks of TaeKwonDo, for example, but not as smart in a street fight.
