I was trying to figure out how the riot ended. I honestly did not know and was not watching TV at all on Jan. 6th.

I also haven't heard much about how it all ended in the news.

This is what I found on NPR:

    Shortly before 6 p.m.

Almost five hours after the rioting began, police start to clear the Capitol and eventually secure the interior.

    Just after 8 p.m.
    Pence reopens the Senate.
    =======

So it was the Police who went in and kicked everyone out...no Military or National Guard troops?

Was there any shooting taking place at that time?

Not trying to start any kind of debate - just asking for more info on the way it all ended.

There's so much political discussion - I'm more interested in logistics and the physics part.

    Thanks!

For those deluded people who STILL think these hearings are a Dem hit job, ALL THE WITNESSES ARE REPUBLICANS, many who were TRUMP LOYALISTS IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!

It was a combination of capital police and National guard. The national guard was late arriving because there people who were authorized to activate them didn’t.

Trump refused to call the Military or National Guard, or anyone. A fact stated by dozens of conservative Republicans in Trumps own administration. Pence and other high ranking senators and representatives are the ones who called for support. After three hours of encouraging the rioters, Trump finally called them off but only after it was clear that his riot had failed and he found out troops were on their way.

There was some shooting, including the death of a rioter who entered a safe zone for congress. This was after given warning not to enter. There was a lot of violence against the DC police. IMO, it was a shocking and disgusting display of anti-Democracy by so-called "patriots" on US soil. You really should listen to the dozens of conservative Republican witnesses in the hearings. It is illuminating.

Some started to leave when Trump posted the 4:17 speech. And the FBI and National Guard began clearing the Capital. Once they were on their way, it was going to end. The reports of this response came just before Trump recorded his address

It's also quite damning that he relented on posting the 4:17 speech only after finding out the Pence and others had mobilized a sizable force to contain the situation. I'm not sure how long he would have let it go on without the threat of reinforcements.

Rick Wilson has a way with words.

"This is your reminder that Josh Hawley is a delicate flower who raced away from his dictator-curious cosplay moment and fled like a scalded dog when the dirty little people he whipped up into an orgasmic froth of revanchist violence got too near his delicately moisturized hide."

The events around 224 need follow up. In the minutes leading up to Trump’s Tweets, the Secret Service was concerned that the Vice President was in peril. They were addressing this on their radios which are monitored in the White House. A real question is whether Trump was advised. It is impossible to believe he was not. During these events, Trump sent the tweet about Pence lacking courage to do what is right. Etc. Very damning about what Trump’s mental state/ intent was at the time. Especially knowing his followers read his tweets. And his refusal to do anything.

Given the events, DOJ needs to get witnesses into the grand jury and get this to the courts to overrule the BS claims of executive privilege. We have one president at a time and Biden has waived it. It is up to the president to determine if the national interest is served by waiving whatever privilege may exist. And an insurrection certainly meets that test. And given what they are investigating, there is no executive privilege under Nixon. No one can seriously believe that the president’s refusal to protect the Capital when it is being attacked to stop the certification of his election defeat is privileged. It is good the Committee has not delayed mitigating this but sad that DOJ hasn’t teed this up.

It just shows how cults and dictators stay in power. I can’t even imagine how folks carried his water before, let alone now. Simply astounding. To own the libs! Propaganda and talking points have brainwashed the world. And these same folks seem to be the ones calling others sheeple and failing to think. Smdh.

And yet, the democrats won’t be able to marshal their forces and put forth a viable candidate.

Both sides suck, just accept it and don’t put anyone on a pedestal. Elected leaders also represent both sides, but politics has become governing. Now get off my lawn. ;)
