The questions Goldstein raised and how he dissected the process was my only point of posting the interview. I just don’t see how Garland can do anything. He needs a smoking gun that Trump directed it all. The 1/6 hearings need someone to chirp on Trump with recordings and clear intent.
The DOJ needs to bring in witnesses and put the witnesses before the grand jury who assert executive privilege and then get court orders to compel testimony.
I am not pro Trump by any means. I am not comfortable with locking up ex presidents. It has a banana republic feel to me. I also worry that about a third of our country still supports the orange cretin.
If he, or anyone else breaks the law, they should be charged and tried. I'm sure his worshippers would go apeshit if he gets charged; especially if that leads to a conviction and any kind of sentence. We are either a nation of laws or we are not.
I get that I just wish his idiot supporters would pay attention and stop supporting his desire to turn our nation into a dictatorship. Then he could just fade away and become a warning tale we use to scare children with.
Goldstein has appeared often on MSNBC. He's got credentials, experience and equanimity. The emotional side of me wants Trump to go down like the Hindenburg. (He even resembles that ill-fated blimp.) The rational side of me says follow the law, so I'd give a lot of credence to what Goldstein says. Trump's real exposure is in Georgia. There's at least one smoking gun there, so far, plus the state statute is fairly straightforward.
