There are certain people in here that I never engage with on certain topics. I know what they are going to say and what my response will be and their counter response. So I let that run quickly through my head and the need to respond quickly passes.
Is it though? Isn't part of the point of that passage how unusual such a thing is and that it is, in essence, a miracle that such a thing happened and not something that should be applied in a general sense? I am pretty sure the church leadership that believed in life being breathed into people occurring at different stages of development over time were aware of that passage. I mean, the bible describes virgin birth as well, but if we were writing laws to deal with virgin birth, even Christians would find it odd, given that the point is that sort of thing doesn't generally happen.
read a bible and follow his teachings. I think less than one percent of Christian’s follow the teachings of Christ.
I have never been impressed with Tebows intelligence. He has football smarts but on anything else he isn’t the brightest bulb in the bunch. His faith I assume is real but I don’t look to football players for important decisions.
Here’s another problem. Mr Lake Brantley HS thinks faith and intellect are intrinsically related. They aint.
Nope faith and knowledge have nothing to do with each other. What I may have poorly said was that if Tebow said something about football I would listen because he has knowledge there that I don’t have. Virtually anything else I am probably politely listening but not taking it to seriously.
You can look him up. There's enough on the web to satisfy curiosity. My reference to Baucham was more to the point. Yes, you have, and Douglas Wilson is also firmly connected to the dominionist/nationalist movement. Even moreso than Voddie Baucham/ Doug Wilson’s Religious Empire Expanding in the Northwest Southern Slavery, Douglas Wilson exposes the radicalism of his growing 'Christian' empire. "MOSCOW, Idaho -- The flyers showed up one day last fall, scattered around the sprawling campus of the University of Idaho at Moscow and looking for all the world like a routine advertisement for a couple of visiting scholars. "Meet the Authors!" the one-page announcements shouted, referring readers to an upcoming February conference on campus that would be featuring speakers Douglas Wilson and Steven Wilkins, the co-authors of Southern Slavery, As It Was. There followed five excerpted "highlights" from their book......This flyer was no advertisement. It was a call to arms. "In the months that followed, sparked by the flyers anonymously distributed by antiracist activists, an uproar erupted that convulsed the campus, the town, and even the community around Washington State University, another huge school some eight miles away in Pullman, Wash. "Before it was over, the presidents of both universities had condemned Wilson and Wilkins' book in unsparing terms, dozens of newspaper articles, editorials, advertisements and letters to the editor had been printed, major demonstrations had been held, new antiracist groups had formed, and a whole array of counter-events had been organized for the Wilson/Wilkins event." A pdf of Wilson's paper can be found online at the following link. Only 4 pages, it's a quick read http://susannalee.org/courses/print/Wilkins-Wilson_1996-print.pdf Excerpts "Slavery as it existed in the South ... was a relationship based upon mutual affection and confidence," "There has never been a multiracial society which has existed with such mutual intimacy and harmony in the history of the world. "Slave life was to them [slaves] a life of plenty, of simple pleasures, of food, clothes, and good medical care." "Judge George L. Christian observed, "In the first place slavery, as it existed in the South, was patriarchal in its character; the slaves (servants, as we called them) were regarded and treated as members of the families to which they severally belonged; with rare exceptions, they were treated with kindness and consideration, and frequently the relations between the slave and his owner, were those of real affection and confidence" "Slavery as it existed in the South was not an adversarial relationship with pervasive racial animosity. Because of its dominantly patriarchal character, it was a relationship based upon mutual affection and confidence. There has never been a multi-racial society which has existed with such mutual intimacy and harmony in the history of the world. The credit for this must go to the predominance of Christianity. The gospel enabled men who were distinct in nearly every way, to live and work together, to be friends and often intimates. This happened to such an extent that moderns indoctrinated on "civil rights" propaganda would be thunderstruck to know the half of it…." The previous portion of my post establishes Wilson's agenda, but he has now opened a private "classical" Christian school in Moscow, Idaho. More than 88% of students are White, with fewer than 2% each Black or Native American. Less than 12% minority. It is not accredited by the state of Idaho. Yes, there are lots of splinter groups out there... Why do you follow these men and quote them from time to time? Essentially - supporting them and their agendas? This is an issue of importance to me as I'm descended in part from the Lee family of Virginia. You may remember some of them. My great grandmother's 2nd cousin Was Robert E Lee and their mutual great great great grandfather Richard Lee promoted and profited from slavery in Virginia's Jamestown colony when he imported some of the first slaves in what was to become the United States. That is the shame of my family
But none of that stuff seems to matter. For as long as I've been here you've consistently supported politicians who are against gun control, against gay marriage, against masks and vaccines, for capital punishment, and against socialized healthcare. You are a huge DeSantis fan. Where does he fall on these issues? Ironically, your one most important issue, abortion, is the one where DeSantis is not going to come through for you.
They are men who walk to the best of their ability with Christ. They are two of the best at hermeneutically interpreting the Bible to the best of our abilities (I am far more knowledgeable with Voddie and only followed Wilson in passing). Voddie is definitely one of the Great leaders for the Church of our time. I have never heard either man say this country should be a Christian Nation. But they each care dearly that the lost find Jesus. If one of them has called for this country or any country to be a Christian Nation…I would disagree with them. I don’t think you will find that. I have not read Wilson in years though suspect he is still solid. Voddie is one of the best. His Table of Nations sermon from 2008 that I have posted in the past is phenomenal. The race peddlers would benefit greatly from it. I suggest listening to it but the pdf is there to read as well… The Table of Nations: Are There Many Races, or One?
This is all I could find. Sorry it had to come from "that side's" news feed. I would just say that Rush may have bloviated and acted self righteous in an entertaining way, but I would not have called him a pathological liar. I do not believe the Youtube video is still around. I do remember the evening news (on a well financed, local and mostly liberal leaning station) when he said it. Right now all I see is a bunch of "it was taken out of context" efforts after he said it. Virginia Governor Defends Killing Babies After They’re Born | iHeartRadio | The Rush Limbaugh Show
DeSantis lines up pretty close to me on abortion. And she implied that I was Trump like in my personal beliefs. Dont give her an out by pointing out that one issue supercedes the others. She made up a lie. A misrepresentation of me. You know its true. You know where I stand on those things. And lets be honest, most of those issues have been new battles for Dems too. Obama was against gay marriage until he wasnt. Dems pandered about health care for years before BHO delivered a better than nothing, but pretty weak system. I care deeply about the topic of unborn humans. I believe they are unique humans in the image of their Creator. That will resonate with me more than the glorified taxation that the state calls marriage, or if you want to wear a mask.
I know where you say you stand on those things, but it doesn't seem to translate to the politicians you support. You're a big fan of DeSantis, but DeSantis won't expand Medicaid in Florida. 38 other states have done it. So that can't be that important of an issue to you. Gun Control? DeSantis just made a big deal about denying money for the Rays training complex because the Rays spoke out about gun violence after Uvalde. Vaccinations? DeSantis mandates that businesses can't require them. Death penalty? DeSantis signs death warrants. Gay marriage? DeSantis vindictively used his office to punish Disney for speaking out against his 'don't say gay' bill. As for abortion, DeSantis isn't going to ban it in Florida. And you say that's your biggest issue. So why exactly do you like DeSantis so much?
Thank you for looking for the original quote. I googled 'did Ralph Northam speak of aborting babies after they are born" and found an article on Reuters about the apparently misconstrued incident - Wortham's misquoted comment was apparently imposed on a picture of a newborn, appearing as a meme that appeared on Facebook. Fact check: Virginia governor’s 2019 comments about abortion bill are missing context "The meme here , which features the photograph of a newborn child, reads: “’And when it’s born, we will make the baby comfortable until the mother decides if she wants it to live or die.’ Dems are for full term abortions! God have mercy on their souls when women are legally allowed to kill a child.” "The meme appears to inaccurately quote the remarks made by Democrat Ralph Northam during an interview with a local radio station youtu.be/E6WD_3H0wKU?t=2464 in 2019 when asked about Bill HB 2491. "Northam was referring to “third-trimester abortions” that are done in cases “where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that’s non viable” he said. “If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother,” Northam stated. This comment was quickly addressed by Republican commentators who, as reported by Vox here , took his words as “an endorsement of infanticide.” --------------------------------------- I inquired of the source as my gullible, excitable, and conspiracy burdened housekeeper announced to me a few months ago, "'They're writing legislation to make abortion legal up to 6 weeks after a baby is born". She was unable to give me a reliable source or define who "they" might be, only declaring it true as she apparently read it on a "reliable" but unknown source.
As I said, it appears there is ample attempts to put the toothpaste back in the tube. What I see, and we all see what we want to see, is that he was using a rhetorical example to soft sell the legislation. Perhaps a few persons can rationalize the mother's emotions and so the need for the legislation. But as you are well aware, there are always unintended consequences from far-reaching laws. Like when we decide to import certain plants or animals to combat a problem and then we begin a new, and sometimes bigger, problem with the new species. It is my firm belief, since I recall the news and the aftermath, that Northham spoke and pulled a "Trump" or a "Biden" (whichever is your preference) and afterwards there was political spin galore. There wasn't any part of the news I watched, and as I posted it is a liberal-leaning station and is well financed, that tried to "right a wrong" in how it was interpreted through any official channels. Methinks it was because the powers that be did not see how it mattered and everything was on auto-pilot. Call it a precursor to what happened politically in Australia and Canada as a result of Covid. Truly bizarre. And so to make sure I am not labelled too much as a right-wing nut, my alarm was just as loud when the response to 9/11 was to introduce the Patriot Act. Truly an overstep of what the government, at any level, should be permitted to do in the name of security. We seem to be in the era of continual crises - this one is about the overturning of R v W - and what the Democrats (mainly) have attempted in the past. And my example was one of a crisis of a mother who would be, um, inconvenienced and wrapping it up in the vitriol of calling it victimhood. Covid is dead. Long live Monkeypox! Wash, rinse, and repeat. You may come up with different math. I am comfortable with mine. It is based on some real facts and a bunch of intuitive interpretation of why these events are happening and the timing of them. The powers that be are NOT stupid. And to use a more "Christian" notion to things, there are "happenstances" that appear to be, when you look at the big picture and over a period of time, intelligently designed rather than via a progression from the Big Bang to the primal slime to the effect of the beating of a butterfly's wings. It is TOO connected to be merely a cosmic roll-of-the-dice game.
I am not sure what faith is supposed to do for me or anybody. The only thing I take seriously from Tebow is his explanations of football.
J, You don’t carry that shame. Especially since you stand in opposition to what your ancestors stood for. Abraham came from idol worshippers.
