Don will threaten to be a third party candidate if he doesn’t do well in Iowa and New Hampshire. My prediction
Eh, he’s Manchin+. The natural next step. Look at how D’s will fawn all over zealots like Pence and Cheney for doing the absolute minimum. D’s will canonize you for only barely achieving better-than-worst-possible. D’s understand that the only way to pass your agenda is to give up on it, and embrace hyper-focused opponents infused with a sense of infallible, omnipotent righteous indignation to suddenly see reason, via different magic.
I disagree. Look all we heard from the left is no one will have the guts to challenge Trump. No one will speak out about the election lie. Etc. Pence is doing both, so now we are complaining that he didnt do it sooner. Fine. i wish he had, but once Trump started undermining the process, Pence changed. It was like he could tolerate the personality and crassness, but drew a line when it mattered most. Jan 6th changed Mike Pence imho. I bet in a quiet moment he has regrets for how much he was loyal, but he can't fix the past. It's like a marriage. Yeah she should leave the guy, but when he calls out a hit on her she will suddenly realize she was wrong all along and file for divorce. The very reason Pence is on Trump's bad side in the first place is because he dared to defy him. I am leaning towards DeSantis, but if somehow Pence became a viable candidate (doubtful) and could somehow beat Trump, how delicious would that be? One thing Pence would do is restore class and respect to the position.
This is more of a Republican issue. But I am glad to see more Republicans push back on the Trump cult. Pence >>>>> Trump cultists
? Pence was on completely on board with Trump's efforts to undermine the election and was actively whipping votes to deny certification in the lead-up to Jan 6. Heck, correct me if I'm wrong, but I did a quick Google search and it looks like he still hasn't publicly rejected the big lie or confirmed that Biden won legitimately. The only thing Pence "drew a line" on was Trump's demand that he try to unilaterally overturn the results, after their efforts to pass an objection in Congress failed. I'll give him due credit for disobeying Trump in that moment, but he's hardly some hero to democracy.
Pence should testify before the Jan 6 Commission. He should have spoken at the impeachment proceedings. He should speak out now. I don’t recall any public rebukes of Trump. I see him more as someone who jumped off the sinking ship that he helped sink. Yes, I’m glad that in the end he did the right thing, but he is far from a redeemed or heroic figure, in my eyes. I gained respect for Romney. Disagree with his politics, but I respect the man.
Dunno Murph. People were marching on the capitol while chanting for his execution. He still did the right thing. I think supporting multiple candidates that Trump has openly opposed is pretty public. There is actually a day coming up where Trump and Pence will both be in Arizona campaigning for rivals against each other. That is also pretty public.
Good point. Some have dared go against trump. And for virtually every one it ends their political career, regardless how staunchly conservative they are, or of good moral fiber. many of them also receive death threats and chants to hang them.
I really don't have anything negative to say about our past great president. I still don't believe he will run, but I do like the ones he's endorsed, we need like minded politicians to get our country back
It’s not strong enough to just have this silent tactical chess match with Trump. We needed him to speak up on many occasions and he failed to do so.
So you like splitting up immigrant families and being unable to re-unite kids with their parents, shoving UV lights up your backside, and failed autogolpe attempts to overthrow our democracy. Understood.
You might vote for a person, DeSantis, who abuses his power by using the power of the government to penalize and punish entities for expressing views contrary to his? That is a black and white abuse of power...a clear abridgement of the right to free speech without fear of retaliation by the government. He also is the country's foremost "thought policeman". It is now the policy of our state that a warped, far right conservative view of the world is mandated to be taught in social studies, English, and even math classes! He has effectively turned the government of the state of Florida into a direct extension of the fundamentalist/extreme right political movement. He actively stoked Trump's attempt to overthrow the election by pushing the alternate slate of electors option which was then being promoted by the White House. He suggested that viewers of Fox donate to Trump's preposterous Stop the Steal legal fund. He even suggested that the FBI might be behind the January 6 riot. And he has done all of this while accusing Democrats of doing exactly what he is doing! He has no respect for freedom of speech, religion, thought, or a host of other freedoms protected by the Constitution. He has no business being governor, and definitely has no business being president. He is nothing more than a smoother, Trump-ian fascist. You might vote for a person like that? How about, instead, that you vote for a person who believes in democracy, the rule of law, and the freedoms enshrined in the Constitution?
whoo hooo for Pence. Where were the accolades for everyone else who were super trump supporters who saw through the BS who either testified under oath, or are still shouting from the rooftops about this cancer of a person who was actually the Prez?
