NIL is getting increasingly out of hand.

It’s going to destroy College Football for most.

Will top 100 players continue to play like top 100 players after they break the bank? So many new issues to deal with.

Eventually we have to find a way to win these money battles, and also keep the players engaged.

they have opened Pandoras box and it will continue until something is done. What will be the incentive for the kids when they look at their contract as a NFL second round pick and they got more money at the U as a recruit? It will spill over to the NFL. It may have a silver lining as kids may stay in college longer because they make more.

WTF is going on when were literally talking openly on a recruiting forum about players and their parents getting paid.NIL is just contrary to everything I think makes College Sports special and better than Professional/For Compensation Sports.

It's just INSANE, destroying the great sport of Amatuer College Football to line the pockets of what - 100 players?

    This SUCKS!

OK, I get thta the kids needed some $ given current realities.

How about this - All 84 get 24K, even Steven.

Every kid that gets on the field for "A Play" gets $100.00 bucks.
If a kid is o the field 35 plays, makes $3,500.00 extra.

This would stimulate players to participate in practice, and a STARTING position, and certainly to compete for playing time.

    You make an SEC 1st, 2nd or 3rd team - $10,000.00, $7,500.00, $5,000.00.

    All American - 1st team - $25,000, 2nd team, $15,000.00 3rd team, $10,000.00

    Win a Heisman - $50,000.00

Win an SEC Championship - EVERYBODY gets $5,000.00
Win a National Title - Everybody gets $7,500.00

What is this you say? - How about something akin to performing WELL on a job and getting a bonus.

This SHIT of paying unproven 5 stars $5,000,000 just to sign and everybody else a Tee Shirt and a Big Mac deal is STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's the American way of course, give all the cake to a few, of which at least half are completely UNDESERVING!

The problem with your model is it would be the school actually paying the players which would make them employees and open up another whole can of worms. Currently it’s boosters and collectives paying the players outside of the school infrastructure, which is also not the intent of the rule but there is no enforcement of the rules *yet*. Your proposed model is closer to the professional sports model than the crap we have now. NIL the way it was intended is great. What we have now is a s**t show.

Thank you for your reply, I'm no lawyer and damn sure would never want to be...............HOWEVER, why can't the collective and boosters do what I described above?

    Thx in advance.

An individual school’s collective could do that but they would get destroyed in recruiting by other school’s collectives offering more to the highest rated players.

They can if they choose too but they can’t legally be limited legally so they can pay whatever they choose. There’s nothing to make them conform to a set of rules legally.

The other two above me answered your question as far as individual collectives go. If you’re suggesting that all the collectives should work together to cap it, that’s called collusion, and that is illegal. Supreme court has already said any attempts to limit earning potential will be met with litigation.

I’d say the laws are made for us all, not for college football.

Well thank you legal eagles for explaining reality. Being a stupid layperson my interpretation is this:

There is no chance at equality at anything in the USA, including some football.

The rich and greedy make the rules to benefit the select few rich and greedy.

The laws are of course written by the rich and greedy to ensure that.

Oh well. I'm going to water my flower garden after work, until the cops arrest me for sharing the water bucket equally.

I've said it before, you only need one or two billionaires to drive these prices up unreasonably high, over any reasonable return, because they don't mind throwing away money for bragging rights like it's a hobby.

It's fine if they want to do that with art, but it will destroy sports where competitiveness is what makes it worth watching. That's why the NFL has a legal exception to limit wages.

And I know these aren't wages, they're NIL. The NCAA screwed up letting the genie out of the bottle before finding an alternative.
All we can do is wait for rules and enforcement, like proving NIL deals make sense and reasonable and capped compensation in a different way.
