Can't imagine that heat in northern Europe. We were in London a few years back with temps in the low to mid 90s and totally miserable as many places didn't have AC.

And let's not forget the US. While China and India are currently the largest emitters of carbon, cumulatively they don't come close to the US over time.
    [IMG]And we're still number two.

The US is still the second biggest carbon emitter after China and before India.
    Carbon Footprint by Country 2022

When ranked per capita, it’s not close. US emissions per capita is about twice that of China and 7 times higher than India.

I was in England many years ago during what I recall was a warmer than typical summer. Nothing like Florida heat or due points but they don’t have the AC we have. I was having to seek out ice as well. I’m sure it’s been a miserable few days for them.

Here in Dallas Fort Worth Area it hit 110 today. I don’t know if that is a record but it’s the hottest I ever recall in the 25+ years living here.

People couldn’t get their arms around climate change and global temps warming 2-4 degrees c over a century. But we are hitting record highs now, in 2022. In 10-20 years is TX going to be like Saudi Arabia?

Friends in London having AC installed next week, hopefully. Good time to own an AC company. Maybe a good time to invest in AC manufacturers

Agree. Very few homes in the UK have AC (probably under 5%) and compared with the US, the percentage of homes and apartments with AC is also low in other European countries.

Will their grid be able to support the additional demand?

Good point. Interestingly, in a case of everything old being new again several countries in the EU are now considering nuclear power plants and nuclear already accounts for the majority of electrical generation in France.

I’d venture to guess not just no, but hell no. They have less energy in general due to Russia-Ukraine war. Of course it takes time to build out A/C. This will play out over years. They will have to find ways to boost their grid as A/C usage expands, as that’s all currently built on the expectation of not needing A/C.

    Hot? Naw.

Yeah, past 40° today. We are NOT used to this weather. None of us are, really. I have seen people advising others to carry a water bottle, mostly so we can beat each other to death when it all gets too much...

In all seriousness though for a second, I don't remember anything like this in my lifetime, so whatever view one has of climate change, it's pretty exceptional weather.

It would be nice if the right winger GW deniers would say 'oh, I guess the scientists were right, we better do something about this', but we know that's not going to happen. The only thing that's going to bail us out of this is science, and the right wingers will fight that science all the way.

Assuming alcohol is still legal and women are still allowed to show their ankles, it will still be better than Saudi Arabia.

All kidding aside, I assume the Saudis have AC. Heathrow apparently reported 104F today.
