Yes. I liked the goal of being the fastest team in the country and having guys who wanted to prove it to each other.
The story was… Noel Devine was the top RB in the state and country and extremely fast. He was from Ft Myers, mentored by (and I think lived w) Deion, ended up at West Virginia. He drove up to Lakeland and started asking people at Walmart where Chris Rainey was bc he wanted to race him. Rainey was awakened, went to Walmart and raced him in the parking lot in his socks, and won. He probably raced demps and Percy Harvey too at some point.
I don't think he had any real big offers... You can go back to TOS and look in their archives and see his list of college offers.
The first part of your post is correct. He didn’t live with Deion in FL though. Pretty sure he lived with his grandparents or something like that when he was at North Ft Myers HS. Then he went to live with Deion in TX for his Senior year if I recall correctly. As for the racing Rainey I have no knowledge but I’ll take your word for it. He was super fast but his came at top end, he had that extra gear. He was super slippery in HS though, you’d see him swarmed by 8 people and still come out of it somehow. If I recall he wanted to be a Gator but grades kept him out. Would have been cool
I wonder if he and Nape played together at Furman? Both were there in the late 90's... Maybe that is the connection?
Only lived with Deion for very short time in Texas. Left almost immediately and went back to Fort Myers. That whole saga was weird.
