If you are a white man in a commercial now, you must either have a black wife or portray someone on the LGBT spectrum. That's the solution Madison Avenue came up with when white men started complaining about only being portrayed as idiots in these little gems from hell.
I’m non biracenary so I have no issues with commercials and don’t understand what this thread is about. I identify as no one.
Here's a link to a detailed explanation of the recasting. You hit the nail on the head. Why The Original 'Jake From State Farm' Actor Had To Be Re-Cast
My wife and I call these couples sitcom couples in real life. We know one in particular. He is the chubby goofball and he outkicked his coverage by 100 yards lol
The white non – Hispanic population in our country is approximately 55%. So, about 27% of the population are white non-Hispanic males. Further extrapolating, about 25% of the population are straight white non-Hispanic males. That includes children. Start keeping track of the percentage of people in commercials who are white non-Hispanic males. My guess is that it’s at least 25%.
These people do this professionally, for millions of dollars. If they thought putting purple transsexual aliens in their commercials would sell their product that's what they would.
Agree. Similarly, corporate media buyers and ad execs also have fairly detailed data on the demographics of the prospective purchasers to whom their commercials are directed. As an example the overwhelming majority of commercials for full size pickup trucks feature white males.
They should run an ad with both of them so everybody knows they're two different Jake's and there's no race fluidity at work. The canon must be respected!
They actually did and it was kind of funny. Would kind of like to see one where there are a bunch of Jake’s of different races in the same commercial.
I’ve noticed this for years. There’s a hierarchy in commercials. At the top kids are with it and parents are clueless. Next down kids and wife are with it and husband is the buffoon. I don’t think I can recall any commercial where the wife is the clueless buffoon and the husband is with it.
I don't see any visibly poor people of any race or gender in ads either. Why does everyone in commercials look like they can buy things without consequence? Strange! Please subscribe to my news letter.
