I don’t know what to do with that comment. Should I laugh or give it EXLAX so it will just disappear?

I disagree with pubs on climate change quite often. The article is 100% about a Democrat.

The subtext is that because of 50 Rebublicans, a single Democrat stepping away has doomed us all.

I remember another thread whether Democrat turnout was the blame for the disastrous, corrupt, 400,000 unnecessary death, twice impeached 2016-2020 presidency when at least 61 million Republicans voted for trump.

Those damn Democrats are failing to protect us from Republican politicians. Epic fail.

He’s a democrat who is anti abortion, pro coal and against raising taxes to ease the deficit…. If he’s a moderate Democrat then what do you think a blue dog Democrat looks like?

    Doomed us all?
By Manchin (responsibly) waiting to see how inflation levels out before adding to it?

What does that other thread have to do with this?

And what does the disaster that was Trump have to do with this?

The article was 100% about Manchin. A Democrat.

(Heck, I never even said that I agree with him. Generally in better economic times, on environmental issues i side with the left.)

I mean in fairness I've been told that all Dems are anti abortion.

This kind of says something. By your definition, there may be one or two Democratic moderates in the Senate. Republicans, maybe two or three. So only 5% of senators are “moderate”.

I was generally with Manchin when BBB was based on budget gimmicks that spent money in one year and recovered it in 10 years. While I don’t know the specifics of the latest bill, waiting for the next month inflation numbers is complete bullshit. Either the bill is deficit neutral or it isn’t. One month inflation numbers shouldn’t make a difference.

But I dont think its been 1 month. I think thats been his point for the six months or so that negotiating has happened.

He has been waiting for some improvement and the clock has run out.

We're so out of whack as a country that any pol showing some fiscal caution is seen as a sell out radical.

Yeah I really haven’t followed the specifics so I don’t know. He was quoted as saying we need to wait until the next months inflation came out.

He is an independent politician with his own agenda is a coal state that is overwhelmingly red. I suspect he is using every tactic available to slow walk the legislation because it just isn’t popular in his state, not to mention his own economic interests. But he doesn’t want come out and say that. The lack of fiscal balance was a good reason not to support BBB Presumably that is now less of an issue, because the big thing that threw that bill askew was one more year of expanded child tax credits, funded by 10 years of taxes- which absolutely would have been more inflationary. He is really looking for any reason not to support it but he doesn’t want to totally alienate Biden and the Democrats.

The problem for Biden is he came in with exactly 50 democrats in the senate and thought he could get new deal 2.0. I think Roosevelt had about 80 democrats in the senate. LBJ had an overwhelming majority. Even Obama had 60, briefly until Kennedy died, and he could barely get ACA through. Getting through major legislation with a 50/50 senate is a near impossibility.

Just to be honest, that is total bullshit. Spending money to combat climate change, provide affordable healthcare, pre-school, child care and the like is far from being an extremist unless you don’t care about anyone but yourself in the here and now and have no foresight.

He is sometimes referred to as a spokesman for Charles Koch. He is less of a puzzle if you keep that in mind.

Nah, just more posturing imo. I don't think he ever supports it, just playing the game, trying to get something for himself in return.

Is there no climate related bill that could pass that maybe a Romney, Susan Collins or Murkowski could sign on to?

I am all for reasonable such measures, but let’s keep in mind that the US emits about 15% of the world CO2 and the share is falling. I am always puzzled by the hysteria that if we don’t do this or that bill the climate is going to burn up. What we do or don’t do at this point doesn’t make much difference.

Also we all focus on energy but nobody talks about food production, mainly livestock, which is probably just as or more harmful.
