Imagine an entire political party willing to irreparably affect our habitat to please corporate donors. Manchin torpedoes Democrats' hopes for passing sweeping climate action and tax hikes - CNNPolitics
Why should anyone be surprised? Manchin represents a state dependent upon extraction of fossil fuels, especially coal and perhaps just as significant and maybe even more so he actually has a substantial personal financial interest in coal mining. How Joe Manchin Aided Coal, and Earned Millions
Manchin is one of only a few reasonable and moderate democrats left in Washington. Everyone else has swung into the extreme far left category. Musk and everyone of the many others who have come out saying it realizes how far left the democrat party has swung since the beginning of the Obama years. Thank God for at least this one voice of reason in that party.
I’m not even against his stance, but it appears he changed it last minute again and wasted months of time they could have been focused on other things. Seems to be a pattern with him. But for all the Dems complaining about him, you might not have the latest USSC justice without him, given Mitch’s history. Or a few other things.
It's all about the corporate donors. I guarantee if Manchin was asked to agree to another $800 billion military bill he'd vote yes.
That just shows how far extreme left you are. Thanks for playing! The article itself from CNN no less calls Manchin a moderate! Everyone with a reasonable thought process considers him a moderate. Biden has in the past been considered a moderate but since taking office he is nothing but a lying leftist puppet with his strings being pulled by extreme far lefties and you know it.
This is probably as close to an accurate statement as you find in regards to Manchin. My only qualifier would be to add the "original" Blue Dog Democrats. The modern Blue Dogs still seek fiscal responsibility and strong national defense, but they are less White, Southern/Midwest and males who feel that they are being "choked blue" by the liberal wing of hte part, and far more diverse and inclusive these days.
I disagree with your depiction of the democratic party. Sure, it has extreme elements, but the vast majority are not. Through my eyes as a democrat, it seems there are far more extremists in the GOP. When it comes to climate change, Manchin is not a moderate, but he is representing the wishes of his constituents, which he was elected to do. (That's always a dilemma: do I do what I think is right, or do I so what my constituents want.) One shouldn't overlook the extent to which Manchin is influenced by his own financial interests.
Both sides have extremists and both sides have moderates. And certainly as a D, I can see how you would think the R's have more extremists. The problem is most members of both parties are not really interested in compromise of any sort, as it upsets the power structure and the leadership of their own parties. That. and many of these bills are poorly written to include many side items that are simply ridiculous and not worthy of voting for.
Title and OP blaming republicans for a democrats vote? Seems odd. He seems willing to consider this if the inflation numbers stabilize and says he was waiting to see if they would. Good for him. It's ok to consider the working folks of today sometimes and not just the ones from 150 years from now. Balance is ok.
Manchin is an enigma. I’ve given up figuring him out. I wish he was at least a better negotiator so he didn’t waste time on deals he backs out eventually. it clear that if the democrats want to be progressive they need more support or they will need to compromise their values. Tough spot to be in when the state distribution is utterly unfair to people.
Well, the bill has the support of 0 Republicans and 49 Democrats, so I think it's proper to blame the GOP for this bill dying. When was the last time the GOP introduced legislation to address climate change?
