Definitely, but in a country with 300+ million people, those rare exceptions add up to 100+ thousand people who didn't fit neatly into a binary categorization.

We have been, but now that we know more we are trying to recognize the reality that gender and sex aren't the same thing, and that sex is more complicated than we thought.

Well, thats definitely been the case in Western society for centuries, some people dont want to let go of a world like that, in fact they blame other failures for this and call it a cultural weakness that people advocate abandoning it.

If there is no bit objective reality than that language is useless as two groups cold be using he same words yet not saying the same thing.
For thousands of years the word man referred to the male gender of homo sapiens, now it doesn't.

Change the meaning of a word might as well throw out the language all together.

I cant speak for all languages, but in ours "man" has been used to describe all of humanity as in the phrase "mankind" or "manmade" "not made by man" It is clearly context driven, as you would not understand mankind to be only talking about "men." Or star trek saying "where no man has gone before" to not include women.

    Valid response.

I was asked specifically what I consider the person to be. I consider them to be a woman. Period. Being nice in spite of that is how I chose to approach it. A certain few people in here are only happy if I say what they want me to say. To SOME anything other than that is unacceptable.

    Do you agree?

    @PerSeGator @WESGATORS

I have followed your insightful, cogent and civil conversation concerning the issue of gender identity versus the socially accepted definitions of man and woman.

Here is the issue as I see it from a transgender perspective.

Social norms cannot be ignored from a transgender point of view as each wishes to identify as the biological equivalent of that which they were not granted at birth.

The social fabric of life says the genitals you were born with is what you are, setting aside anomalies (we have names for those).

Now for the questions. What is wrong with identifying oneself as transman or transwoman? Would that be too much to ask? Would it mean these labels (for lack of a better word) would be less than being identified as a man or a woman? What would they stand to lose? Is it a disgrace to be identified as such? If so why?

In my opinion this would clear up all the issues of biological identity and leave them as they are. Do you believe society would be accepting of a change? Given our history I do.

I understand that. It’s a big can of worms for a small group of people.

Ok. Thats fair, and my comment was probably more a general term to the left than it was just to you so I apologize for that.

I just find it frustrating when I literally am willing to say, I strongly disagree, but will treat you with love and dignity and someone else turns that position into "ass holery" and refuses to show love and dignity back while claiming the side of good.

    Can we agree there?

So you have no definition. It's a wonder you know which bathroom to use.

If you don't know what the word means, I don't want to hear a peep from you about any wars on women, misogyny, etc. because either you're using a term that you acknowledge that you don't know what it means... or you're lying to avoid being confronted with the logical conclusions of your arguments. Either way, you're not a serious person.

Do you have a functional biological definition of woman?

Because the argument in favor of transgender men being men, or transgender women being women, fails under the slightest bit of scrutiny. Arguments that entirely rely on demonizing the opposite side or circular reasoning are incorrect or fallacious.

The truth is not evil, and I know damn well that the contrasting position is false.
