According to a recent NY Times poll. Although the article focuses on Trump's loss of support within the party he still leads Ron DeSantis by a 49% to 25% margin. The 2024 Republican primaries should be very interesting.
Half of G.O.P. Voters Ready to Leave Trump Behind, Poll Finds

Still predicting that if Trump fails to win the nomination he will run as a third party/independent candidate and/or blame his loss on voter fraud. Keep in mind that when Trump lost Republican primaries in 2016 he claimed voter fraud although it didn't matter in the end since he ended up with the party's nomination. If it's not already obvious Donald Trump is psychologically incapable of admitting defeat and there's no reason to expect that he will change over the next two years.

While money always helps, Trump's charisma among his hardcore supporters more than offsets any advantage that DeSantis may have in drawing donations from large donors and let's also remember along the same lines that the Donald has a real talent for drawing donations from small donors.

    Two things to consider:

    1. It will not only be Trump and Desantis running. I think more candidates in a race favor Trump
    2. I don't think Desantis stands a chance against Trump in a debate because Trump hits below the belt

Maybe it's because I'm in Florida, but I have sensed a move toward DeSantis in recent months. And while some Republicans publicly downplay the January 6th hearings, I think a good chunk of Republicans are tired of Trump even if they don't want to air the party's dirty laundry in public. That said, it will be interesting to see how many Republicans run this time around. I agree that a crowded field probably helps Trump because his hard core supporters are probably the most loyal and most willing to cause trouble.

Be honest folks if you look at Trump or DeSantis or any other clows in that poll on one side and then look at Biden, Harris or other prominent democrat clowns; doesn't everyone look at that entire list and just go.....BLEH!!

    Trump is a bully.
Hillary, Jeb, cruz etc wont swing back.

RD will punch him right in the mouth.

It is when people bring up Trump in threads about kittens or whatever else.

It is when no one defends the ineptitude in the current White House with anything other than "but Trump".

    Seriously. It's silly.

No. DeSantis is a leader. You may disagree with him, but he 8snt a puppet on a string like Biden and he isnt the bumbling fool that Trump is.

DeSantis at least makes the conversations political again and stops all the senility and bumbling nonsense of the last two guys.

I think this is true, but we won't find out until Trump starts swinging below the belt.

One of my favorite political memories is the look on JEB!'s face in the first debate with Trump. He just couldn't process what was coming out of Trump's mouth. Once he saw the reaction to what Trump was spewing he knew he didn't have a chance with his fact-based approach and ended his campaign.

I hope he is… the republicans deserve it. Squash that bug now, or pay the price later.
Of course we’ll have another attempt to kill democracy, not that they aren’t at it as we speak.
I don’t want the watered down version of trump either.

No fan of Ted Cruz, but that description also applies to Cancun Ted, who is smarter and more articulate than Trump as well as being a hardcore conservative, although DeSantis is more likeable and than Cruz. If DeSantis manages to win the Republican nomination and Trump is a gracious loser and endorses him, Ron DeSantis will be a very formidable candidate in 2024. It's a big "if" and Trump has never demonstrated that he is capable of accepting defeat. If Trump runs as a third party/independent candidate in 2024 he can draw enough votes from DeSantis in swing states to throw the election to the Democratic nominee who I sincerely hope will not be Joe Biden.

I changed my registration back to R just to be able to vote in the primaries. If the dems could coalesce around a good candidate it woul dbe great for millions of dems to do the same to drag that party back to the middle. Easier to influence from the inside than the outside...

panders way too hard to the base, doesn't consider any opinion contrary to his own, uses gubmnt to punish enemies and is proud of it. He is another one who is unwilling to be told what he doesn't want to hear and punishes anybody that tries to do so. It becomes circular when you surround yourself with yes men/women unwilling to tell you the truth or unable to distinguish the truth.
