https://www.nasa.gov/image-feature/...livers-deepest-infrared-image-of-universe-yet President Joe Biden unveiled this image of galaxy cluster SMACS 0723, known as Webb’s First Deep Field, during a White House event Monday, July 11 Webb’s image covers a patch of sky approximately the size of a grain of sand held at arm’s length by someone on the ground – and reveals thousands of galaxies in a tiny sliver of vast universe Webb’s sharp near-infrared view brought out faint structures in extremely distant galaxies, offering the most detailed view of the early universe to date NASA and its partners will release the full series of Webb’s first full-color images and data, known as spectra, Tuesday, July 12, during a live NASA TV broadcast
What I want to know if this is of an area where they thought nothing was there like with the Hubble Deep Field
FYI.... the circular "smears" you see in the middle are actually galaxies far, far away that are magnified via gravitational lensing from an intermediate cluster of galaxies. Computers will be able to reconstruct those smears into actual representations of the shapes at that time.
I think this area was chosen because of the lensing opportunity mentioned in my preceding post. Lensing gives us the greatest reach in time.
Why is potato's name even on this post above? Nice image though.. Thank you for posting it. I can't wait to see the picture comparisons to the Hubble telescope's...
As I said he had NOTHING to do with the James Webb Telescope and all the money and scientists that worked so hard for years to bring that picture to us all...
So draft a letter to your congresspersons demanding that this particular privilege be revoked from the Prez and any future Prezzes.
it was a copy and paste from NASA based on factual information. Maybe Tucker will run with that angle further for you.
Is NASA in the executive branch? The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is an independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government responsible for the civilian space program as well as aeronautics and aerospace research. The NASA director, Bill Nelson, was nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate. It is more than appropriate for the President to reveal one of the first pictures from the new Webb Telescope.
I don't mean to wet any blankets, and I'm a supporter of NASA and space exploration in general, but did we just spend $10billion to go from 480 to 720? I will assume the JWST will be providing more value than this.

Yeah but the prez is prez. When AR and the team show up at the White House in January, you think they will care if Joe didn't carry a football? I doubt even the sniffing will bother them. Shoot, John McCain spoke at my UF graduation commencement in '04. I don't remember anyone mad he didn't take any of our classes. Thanks for the post 108. I have been looking forward to these.
that was before politics was a hate sport though. Back when people could still respectfully disagree and stillr each a compromise. Hopefully we can find our way back to that one day but the Tucker Carlson's and their ilk on both sides (Maddow) need to be marginalized to the dark corners they belong in so we quit fighting ourselves
