I know it’s a buckeye leaf, and have seen it a million times, but I still do a double take thinking it’s weed :)

True but how many “billionaires” have 10 million a year to spend? He’s going to be spending a lot of money and might decide it’s a waste. That goes for all of us I suppose. Hard to believe there are no real rules or limits.

Just a guess, but 10 mil isn’t that much for a billionaire.

He could flush 30mil a year and never notice a thing. Do the math on simple interest.

ole miss plays in the sec west where one top 5 class might make you the 6th most talented team, 5th at best. Miami plays in what is arguably the worst of all power 5 divisions, the ACC coastal, where one top 5 class makes you the most talented team by far in the division and second best in the entire conference by a large margin.

Maybe he's "worth" a billion or two, not necessarily have it in the bank. More specifically, it seems to be what his stock is worth in his company, which is not just his, it's public. Which brings me to what seems more concerning, that the NIL deals are with that company and I don't think every other shareholder agrees with those "investments". Might be why the value plummeted. What will happen with those deals? Could be nothing, could be a mess brewing, who knows.

I believe his business value is around 32 billion as he owns 70% of hos company. I think his personal net worth is around 2 billion. I could be wrong.

If that’s the case, I don’t think he will be missing a few tax deductible millions

Miami booster John Ruiz’s NIL deals are controversial and aggressive, but he’s confident they are within rules and bring value to his businesses, athletes

Found an interesting article to get a sense of him, the company and the NIL deals. It's a month old and it now seems like he's probably over his $10M budget. There's some sense to it when he compares marketing costs, but I really doubt they'll get their money's worth.

Interesting he's already suing Florida High Schools so they can make NIL. He's a slimeball but does his slimeball attorney work well.

So, some red flags with this guy.
He's making the publicly traded company pay for NIL, claiming it's better than paying for real advertisement. They don't even have fans to fill a stadium but supposedly UM player ads on social media will get this "global" company it's money's worth. He does own 65% of the company.

The shares, $10 in May quickly dropped to $1. Will be interesting to see what could happen to the company and to Ruiz if he uses it as his personal spending cash to buy players for his college team. Don't see this lasting, and who knows if he's caught inducing or breaking state laws.

Will we get a 3rd Sports Illustrated article claiming the "u" fb program should be shut down?

I'm going out on a limb here and guessing he is spending millions of his money to make a mediocre team good again. If he has any other purpose for blowing that amount of money on HS kids then it is lost on me.

Being the 2nd best team of the ACC doesn't make you better than the teams in the SEC who are still Regulary recruiting better year in and year out either. It just means they are the 2nd best team of the worst P5 conference as you stated. They've still got to figure out how to get past Clemson who is still recruiting lights out.

I'm in a "prove it" state of mind when it comes to Miami. (Shit, us too if we being honest lol) I've heard the "U" is back every time they get a new coach and convince some highly ranked local kid to stay home. Hell when they pulled the guys from palmetto (minus Marshall) I remember people saying Miami is gonna take back the state etc etc.
Shit with the way they spending on the out of state talent a lot of the local kids may just feel shunned. May work well for us since CBN has seemingly put an emphasis on taking back the state and he has gotten off to a good start breaking into IMG like he has. and I would put a fla kid up against any kid in the country on avg when talking talent to talent.

If he can take back Tampa, Jacksonville and central fla areas in his 1st full cycle that would be impressive.

He is using his company to fund his personal interest and fandom of the Hurricanes. Fine to do with your own cash, but investors may have a different perspective

I didn’t realize it was publicly traded company. That being the case, the Security and Exchange Commission might pay a visit. One of the absolute last groups of people who you want turning over rocks at your house.

I agree. But depending on their OOC schedule, they could go 12-0 in that garbage conference with their talent…play Clemson in ACC title game and take their chances that they eventually will break through. That is what getting all that extra talent may do for them.

Yep. How scUM recruits against SEC schools is fairly irrelevant. They just need to be stacking talent at a level that is idiot-proof compared to FSU, BC, Louisville, Pitt, etc. Run up 11 or 12 wins per year and as ACC #2 they'll be very likely pick for an expanded playoff that's on the horizon.

If I’d known what this guy was up to a few months ago, I would have shorted his company’s stock.
