Because it makes it so obvious that it is not an impartial court weighing the arguments of each side and dispassionately rendering a considered judgement - i.e. the system is rigged.

I have no problem with SCOTUS members getting together to pray with religious leaders. However any discussion with outside religious Bible thumpers of how they should vote on issues after the prayer is over is unethical, and could be a violation. In the first place I don’t think it’s legal to lobby any member of the SCOTUS, and secondly are these snake handlers registered lobbyists? My guess is they aren’t.

How do you know moderates aren't losing sleep over it? LINK?

That's you trying to rationalize the decision and make it seem like no big deal.

Where did you get your 3-5% number? LINK?

You made those up. Creating fake numbers for what?

Are you on social media at all? WOMEN ARE PISSED OFF...REPUBLICAN WOMEN. SUBURBAN WOMEN. Hugely important voting bloc

Here's an actual poll instead of your made up crap.

CBS News poll: Americans react to overturning of Roe v. Wade — most disapprove, call it step backward

I dont run in "conservative Christian circles". I live and work and run 8n the same circles as everyone else

And being of reproductive age doesnt mean abortion is a major issue with them.
Are miscarriage and car seat laws a major point of concern just because you are of child bearing age?

Its almost vanished from the front pages of the msm news sites already.

This is a political hot button that really doesnt impact that huge of a percentage of the population.

I would guess the issue isn't so much that "praying with" is a necessary problem. It's (at minimum) a perception issue that there could be improprieties involved or even temptation and/or subtle manipulation. When somebody removes themselves from disciplinary hearings/meetings because they know the person involved, it's not that they couldn't be above board and not let said relationship influence their decision-making, it's that it detracts from certainty that such influence wouldn't be at least some small factor.

You are dead wrong. Roe affects every single woman. You are too focused on the act vs reproductive rights.

The difference is that their pastors don't work for attorneys who are advocating for issues, including overturning Roe, before the Supreme Court. That's the massive appearance of impropriety here.

There is a problem with employees of attorneys who are working on cases presently before the Supreme Court ministering to certain justices. And if you read the article, the man who previously led the efforts admitted to praying about political issues, including ending abortion, during prayer meetings with certain justices. In other words, they used these prayer meetings to lobby for their agenda.

When you ask them a question in a poll they will answer it.

My number is based 9n the actual number of abortions that happen in our country. I then multiplied it by 3-5 times to allow impact on those close to them.

It isnt a made up number and I clearly said above it was an OPINION.

If you ask me if I approve a school lunches, I will disagree with many conservatives, but that isnt a sign that I will change votes over it.

Specific polls get specific answers that font extrapolated to the overall voting methodology of a person.

Could I be proven wrong? Of course.

And yes, I am very active on Twitter in particular. I have multiple accounts and post almost daily. Do you think that twitter represents the universe?

Only about 23% of the country even use twitter and that is almost 2/3 democrats to republican.

In other words, it's not representative of mainstream Americans. (Just like a political message board)

I mean if you want to throw facebooks bot engine in there you likely see a pretty even split.

Again. Its my opinion that Roe wont save the dems in the midterms. We shall see.

I'm not sure if social issues work that way. How many people were directly impacted by gay marriage yet were very strongly opposed to or in favor of it? Or kids being read a book by a drag queen? What percentage of people is that directly impacting? Yet those have been big issues because they are representative of what people think our culture should reflect one way or the other - tolerance versus traditional values, etc.

Many people will be more directly impacted by abortion laws - from girls to women and men and boys - that a lot of other things we argue about. I do think you're partly right in that it remains to be seen how much effect Dobbs and state laws may have politically. At least as things are now, abortion laws won't change in all states. For states where laws will change, there are obviously many pro life voters in those states who will be happy with the changes (at least to a point). And I'm not sure if pro choice people are as likely to be single issue voters or prioritize the issue as much as pro life voters. I was listening to a Podcast last night called The Argument, and they were touching on some of the uncertainties around these issues.

It's not just Roe...it's a bunch of things...attacks on teachers(groomers)...attacks on women's reproductive rights...attacks on LGTBQ...lack of any gun decent reform...uvalde...Highland park...woke wars...lots of folks fed up up. No one wants religion in their daily lives. Once a week is good enough for most normal people. The right has gone too far. You don't want to admit. You shrug it off like you did with the Texas GOP. Set your alarm...you have a rude awakening coming.

I know this wont resonate with you, but true prayer isnt a tool of manipulation. The assumption that it is is presumptive. I have no idea what the legal side is.

Was Obama hearing lobbyist in his prayer circles? Was WillyJeff? Or is it only conservatives that are being lobbied during prayer? Is it only judges you care about and not the leader of the free world?

Nah. This thread never happens if this isnt about conservatives and prayer, because I never saw anyone question who BHO or WJC were praying with

Thank you for the information. If what is said is true it gives me comfort to know that there are members of SCOTUS that believe life at any point is sacred and I believe there is a creator applauding and guiding their moves. Pray on !

So, what is the payoff here? Lobbying often includes checkbooks.

Are we saying that judges are swayed by people closing their eyes and praying with them?

Man some of you actually do believe in prayer! Because outside of the actual prayers, what was given in return for a verdict?

Gas prices will go up and down. For all practical purposes, they are outside of the control of both parties (as you know). I am more concerned about the 10-year old pregnant child who can’t get an abortion. I also am more concerned about climate change.

If they were praying behind closed doors, it really seems like there's no Establishment Clause issue because that appears to be praying in a private capacity, not specifically as a member of the Supreme Court.

Where I do see a potential issue is in maintaining social private relationships with people who bring arguments before the Supreme Court. That may create the "appearance of bias or impropriety."

Most people dont want religion in their daily lives? You think religious people only engage while they are at church on Sunday.

I swear you guys are basically clueless to what amounts to about 40% of the country.

Guess what. LGBTQ issues dont move that many people at the booth either. Again, for better or worse, people vote with their wallet.

You wanna win in November, start fixing the pocket books. That will generally win elections.

No, the dems problem is themselves. A terrible candidate that wont influence lower level elections all while failing at the national level.

And you mentioned wokeness. You do realize that even your side (many posters on the left here) have mentioned that the "woke" faction is harming the party. It is certainly not pulling moderates toward it.

We are arguing opinions and future hypotheticals. We... Shall.. see..

You and I may not be that impacted by gas prices. But Trust me, some are getting crushed by it.

As for the 10 year old. I am of the belief that that wont stand for long at all and that common sense will prevail. If not then I hope they get voted out. Because they arent the right ones to lead a compassionate conservatism that I hope to see return.
