Rare and exceptional athleticism and body control. If the coaches unleash him, he should be a very good player for us and perhaps even at the next level. He will have to clean up certain aspects of his game, but so do most young players. I do wish his foot base wasn’t so wide on his jumpers, but that’s a nitpick. Really excited to see his development.
I don’t see the need for clean up from the video, but every player has some things to improve on. As for the wide stance on his jump shots, it is unique, but he releases the ball so early in his jump, that I don’t think it matters. His range appears to be well beyond the college 3-point line. You guys already have my evaluation; best recruit since Beal.
Well, that is a highlight video. I have yet to see a player miss a shot, travel, get blocked, or turn the ball over in a highlight reel yet. I watched some full game footage awhile back and saw some minor things with decision-making. Nothing too serious. As we both stated, all players have things to improve upon. I was not taking a shot at Riley with that comment. Wide-stance will likely be a non-issue, but given the choice to have feet at normal width or farther apart, I’d take normal.
I can’t recall from the game footage that I have seen of Riley, whether all of his jump shots are taken with the wide stance. He clearly is not taking the time after he catches the ball to bring his feet together. It doesn’t seem to affect his shot because he is releasing it so early that he doesn’t need to get high up in the air. That’s the way Klay Thompson and Steph Curry shoot the jumper. He was a 40% shooter from 3 this past season.
I think you are making a bigger deal out of my comment on his stance than I was intending. It was just an observation.
I totally agree. Elements of Mann’s game but with much more power. Mann has turned into an elite offensive weapon at the pro level. Even if he’s not a star just yet, you can see it in his flashes of brilliance. It’s too bad OKC took him instead of the Warriors. He would have been perfect there for the second unit alongside Jordan Poole. The OKC fans seem to think he will be a great 6th man for years to come. I think he should be a starter on that team.
The only thing I see is an obvious reluctance to go left. Doesn’t mean he can’t… but big time right dominance.
Good observation. I hadn’t caught that. There was a clip in this video where he dribbled the whole length of the court with his left against defensive pressure, and he did some little in-out moves with his left. I’ll take that as proof that he has a good left, but he just needs to trust it more and use it to make shots at the rim more.
I’m not making a big deal out of it. His wide stance is unusual. I just don’t recall whether he does it all the time. I will check some video.
He isn’t on campus yet, is he? as good as his highlight reel are, his body needs more muscle and a little more weight to be a great college player and position himself well to go in the first round of the NBA draft. If he can hit threes consistently with his drives to the basket, by his sophomore year All SEC, 1st rounder. With our tough schedule this year, he will have to face some future NBA stars, this will show him and coach what he needs to work on to get to the next level!
