I think I would know exactly how many gay/ lezzie friends I had. If they’re dudes, I need to know because I don’t want to get hit on.
Not sure why you wanted to bust his balls over this. That was the strange part.

If you have any gay friends I imagine they know better than to tell you, let alone hit on you.

It doesn't seem that difficult to count to zero. As far as being hit on, I'm sure you're safe.

I think what people may be getting at - or at least what I'm wondering - is to the extent to which you view the commercialization of the pride message as the issue or rather the message itself. You say that June is your least favorite month because of this, but the month of December is probably the most commercialized. Even many people who love Christmas - for either religious and/or secular reasons - think it has become too commercialized. But they probably don't dislike the entire month of December despite being bombarded by Christmas products/messages; they simply understand that people are going to make money off of it, and they try to remind themselves and others not to lose sight of the non commercial aspects.

Here, you've acknowledged that you disagree with the homosexual "lifestyle." By that, I take it to mean that you believe homosexual sex is immoral and/or sinful. Lots of people think that, and that's your right. That doesn't mean you hate gay people or are literally "afraid" of homosexuality. But it does seem that you simply dislike the positive messaging associated with pride. And that makes complete sense if you believe someone having gay or lesbian sex is analogous to being a drunkard, ignoring one's family, or doing something else you think is wrong. I'm just not sure how the commercialization aspect fits in here relative to your general moral opposition.

    Fair enough for sure
I look at it like this
Christmas.. for me … s not a religious holiday.. it is simply a holiday if family and gifts and fun. I actually do think it is too commercialized and any one that knows me will quickly figure out I like to disappear into the woods at Christmas with just my family and friends. But to some extent I just few Christmas as exactly that a commercialized holiday.
June is supposed to be about pride awareness. Understanding. Tolerance. And for the most part that seems to be forgotten. On all sides. The conservative rights gets upset at the commercializing of a lifestyle they disagree with, the liberal left gets upset if every retailer, movie exec etc… doesn’t wrap themselves in the rainbow flag. Target, Walmart, Disney do not care about Pride awareness but about pride believing they care. It’s a sham. An act.
While I do not agree with the lifestyle I very much believe in live and let live. You do you I do me and every can get along.

    But June isn’t about that.

It’s not about Pride awareness. It’s not about tolerance, or live, or understanding. It seems to be completely about the almighty dollar.

Christmas has always seemed that way to me. It’s what Christmas is about. Gifts, shopping, wish list, ornaments. Buying or making that PERFECT gift for loved ones. ( I do not believe Jesus was born on Christmas nor do I believe that date holds any religious significance. That may be more made up than the commercialization part of the national holiday). Si that’s the difference.
I also hate how no o e celebrates Developmental Disabilities Awareness month (march) … people who need far more support and care and understanding…. But don’t have as loud a voice or as big a stick to use to get attention…but that may be another rant for another day.

Sorry I had to chuckle at the I don't have an agenda statement. Fact is we all do myself included. Numerous posts bear that out. We just simply choose what's more important to us.

Many of us on the left are bothered by the commercialization by the corporate world since they don't actually give a damn. I get all of my pride items from local LGBTQ proprietors or foundations.

Gotcha. Should've been clearer that I meant a "libbie" or "conservative" agenda. Obviously we all have stances. :)

    Are you new here?

Again, for the consumers, it's about support. That's why they buy the stuff, and drape it in their yards, or on their persons, or whatever.

For the merchants, it's about profit. Always has been. Staple of capitalism, and all that. You seem morally outraged about the nation's chosen economic system.

In a month that is supposed to be about awareness, understanding and tolerance. What we get is buy buy buy. And virtue signaling from the companies. Pride everything will be forgotten by July 10th. It’s the hypocrisy of it all. Hell we have neighbors that will
Out a pride flag out in June and take it down the other 11 months.

It is about awareness, understanding and tolerance. It's also about commerce, because if there's one thing Americans do better than anyone, it's monetizing anything.

I just don't get where hypocrisy comes in. It sounds like you're trying to quantify enthusiasm and fervor, and finding the celebrants of Pride Month lacking.

IDK, ridge, your reaction seems to come more from a latent hostility toward gays, not the imagined hypocrisy or the obvious attempt by a corporation to profit off of pride month in a capitalist society.

By the way, there is nothing hypocritical about putting up a flag for pride month but not for other months.

Wow...the anti-gay crew is against Pride month and anything that represents the LGTBQ community. Oh,and they are mostly(if not all) Christians as well? No way.

We don’t have to agree or see things from the same point of view. But why, when someone doesn’t agree with you is it always latent hostility, phobia, hate, or ignorance? Why can we not see pride month differently? Innever spoke out against gay pride parades, concerts in the park, or anything that promotes awareness, understanding, unity. I have not said an angry thing or hostile thing or derogatory thing about any group outside of the corporations that use pride month to line their pockets and use to try to prove how wine they are.
We can end the debate. None of us will change our minds. I am not angry or hostile towards anyone… minus a few methheads…
