DeSantis is interesting in this space. He has signed some ridiculous things into law, but on the backside where no one pays attention, he continues to spend loads of money on the University system, because he knows how important that system is to his goal of making Florida the #1 workforce in the country. So he can say whatever partisan shit about higher ed that he wants to - but the guy went to fricken Yale and Harvard.... so he obviously knows the value of a higher education degree.
Pretty simplistic evaluation of DeSantis' understanding of the importance of education, while also realizing that our universities have been influenced, if not taken over by liberal ideology ...
Oh, how would you know that? Do you work in higher ed? And yeah it's pretty simplistic. The guy panders to his base while filling the coffers of higher ed.
This is true, but it's only true because "conservative ideology" has embraced anti-intellectualism. Hard for "conservative ideology" to run higher education when it is completely at odds with it.
What moron does not know that most universities are not run by liberals heavily influenced in the ideology? Just you, maybe?
I don't think people actually say this enough. Take agriculture for example - just about anybody with training in agriculture will tell you climate change is a huge issue for farmers. And there are a decent chunk of people in Ag in Florida who ain’t liberal lol
UF for example is run by a large and diverse group of administrators. The educational units are large and have a ton of autonomy. The idea that some cabal of liberals controls the ideology of a large university is just stupid. The provosts office can barely tell the colleges what to do on a good day. There is more diversity of thought than you probably realize and I know for a fact there are conservatives on the senior staff not to mention the entire board of trustees.
a conservative ideology is to not believe in man made climate change. And you won’t see that taught in ag. You’ll see counterpoints for sure, but it can’t be taught as fact.
Oh, BS. You're talking to someone who has been through the system. My best friend works at FSU and can't open his mouth about politics for fear of no further promotion. Save us the crap.
If we're being technical, the universities are actually run Ron DeSantis's political appointees and the political appointees of Ron DeSantis's political appointees. But yes, if we're talking about faculty, they are largely to the left of the spectrum. That, of course, isn't a surprise. The Republican Party has been hemorrhaging educated members for years. You can see the shifts over time among the educated: And if you look at people who have advanced degrees, the disparity only grows.
Ron DeSantis says three years of law school is a ‘waste’ Someone else please repost...I can't get it to stick. Thanks. Newbie
Probably because man-made global warming is BS pushed by nations for more control, mostly through energy regulation. and corporations/politicians for profit. It's all a hoax junior.
It's hard to take you seriously if you're going to pretend that "conservatives" aren't making attacks on higher education a central part of their rhetoric. In fact, we've already seen you do that in this thread.
You mean indoctrinated? How do you explain the "educated" 50 years ago? Also, do your statistics account for age, as I was once a middle of the road, leaning libtard?
