However, material witness Pelosi and her henchmen refused to permit the designated reps of the GOP (such as Jim Jordan) to sit on the Inquisition Board (for obvious reasons), instead appointing their own token establishment stooge to pretend to afford counter representation...

The difference with the objections is in the past, they were little more than sour grapes to be included in official records, with the Congressmen knowing that's all their objections would ever be. But if you believe the testimony, the 2020 objections were part of a coordinated effort to overturn the election. In short, previous Congressmen who rejected understood and accepted their objection would be little more than a footnote in history. But the 2020 objectors wanted to be a big part of the main story, and overturn the election.

 

That's a lot of Americans.

I understand your frustration, but it was the republicans who refused to set up a bipartisan committee with equal participants leaving it to the Democrats to set up their own. It’s those who opposed Trump’s attempt to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power who are testifying under oath, and those who support Trump are refusing to testify.

The same is true here. Their objections literally could not be sustained by Congress given that Democrats controlled the House.

Give me a break! Trump insiders have been asked repeatedly to testify and several have been subpoenaed. Yet, many refuse to come forward and tell us what they know. Why? Because they know they will have to implicate der leader or LIE under oath.

 

2000 was an extraordinary occurrence and it isn’t surprising that people wanted to try to run out the clock to the last minute. I’m not saying it is good or bad but by all accounts the election was a draw and we were in tiebreaker mode.

It is entirely plausible that Russias efforts in 2016 swung the election given how close it was in a few swing states. It’s a hypothetical and we will never know. In my mind it was a problem, but it wasn’t a problem with the electoral process per say and didn’t change the legitimacy of the election from a technical standpoint.

Yes I understand politicians will take hypocritical stands. But I just don’t see any of this equating on any level to any aspect of 2020.

You didn't have to mention Trump. His stubby fingerprints were all over every facet of the coordinated campaign to overturn the election. For some reason, you're putting one small element of this campaign--the objections to the electoral count--into a vacuum, and drawing a completely untenable equivalency.

 

What was missing in all previous years were the protesters, speeches, and plans to storm the Capitol. In 2000, for example, there was no larger plot to change the outcome. Gore had conceded by the official count. The objections were simply a superficial objection to be placed on the record. Can we say the same about all the events on Jan 6?

Trump is a 74+ year old toddler, who often throws tantrums. It's entirely believable that he'd grab the steering wheel or throw plates at the wall.

 

Picturing an irate and thwarted Trump bellowing "I'm the president!," and grabbing for the steering wheel places no burden, whatsoever, on the imagination.
