Why should this coach be afforded special privileges?

The only remedies are expansion or nonacquiescence. Otherwise, they get their way.

I was once told that tolerance was not enough. If I have to tolerate someone than I am a bigot. Tolerating implies something they are doing needs tolerated.

That happened on this board multiple times by a certain poster.

My point wasnt to frame you as a bigot as much as to say "see, its not bigoted to tolerate".

He shouldn't. Everyone should be allowed to do what he did.

No, it makes you feel coerced into doing something, not just bad. Is that the end of the inquiry? No. But when the record shows multiple kids feeling that way and the coach very obviously engaging in religious conduct while on the job, it should be enough.

Prayer in the classroom? Led by classroom teachers? Is that what you mean, or are you drawing a distinction between one type of school employee and another?

We just couldn't disagree more. Under your thought process all that is needed to squash speech and religious expression is a couple people claiming to feel coerced. No chance that would get abused right?

No the burden has to be higher than that. I think even many on the left would agree with that.

I'm drawing the distinction that the football field after a game is different than the classroom.

Really? Why are you trying to take what I said out of context? Here is what I said:

One can speak to ones god without saying it out loud in front of a bunch of other people. Performing it in front of other people sounds like preaching to me.

Why didn't you include my second sentence? I was stating my opinion that praying in front of a group of people seems like preaching to me. It would be nice if you'd stop trying to pretend that you and your fellow Christians are the victims here. As a non religious person, I've had Christians tell me I'm going to hell, amongst other nasty things. Does that seem like bigotry to you? Should I start pretending to be a victim like you do?

No, you don't seem to understand how limited the Establishment Clause is. All that's need to "squash" religious expression from government employees on the job at that time is people feeling coerced. That's accurate. And that's the price of working for the government.

That is not the definition of tolerance. So one poster here got it wrong. What does any of that have to do with anything that I have said in this thread?

In what way? The players aren't excused yet, the field is paid for by the taxpayers, the coach is still on the clock.

Alex Rodriguez Signs 1-Year, $25 Million Deal With Lakewood Church Softball Team

“HOUSTON, TX - Fresh off his recent announcement that he would not be playing in Major League Baseball for the remainder of this season, fueling considerable chatter about what would come next for the slugger, Alex Rodriquez silenced the speculation when he announced Wednesday that he has signed a one-year, $25 million deal to play for the Lakewood Church Softball Team for the 2017 season.

"I played in Texas before I was a Yankee, and I'm really looking forward to playing there again," Rodriguez said in an afternoon press statement in front of the Houston megachurch. "I hope to help Lakewood utterly dominate their softball league next season."

Lakewood reportedly beat out several MLB teams as well as Elevation Church to sign the 41-year-old to the rich one-year deal, which, according to sources, also contains several performance bonuses. Moving from one massive, cash-flush organization to another seems like a no-brainer for the future hall-of-famer, even considering the reported contract stipulation that A-Rod cover the pulpit for Joel Osteen three times during the course of the year.”

I've already posted the amicus brief containing the statements of one of the players. Anything else you'd have to look through the district court docket.

One could say that some kids feel that they have to participate, even if agnostic, because of peer pressure. It's HS.

We are looking more and more like a fascist country. These two tidbits from our "non politicized" SC says so.
