Someone get this fact over to Leblanc - Since 2005, Oklahoma has had 2 defensive players drafted in the 1st round. In that same time, Florida has had 14.
That's kind of the point. Why did Venables all of a sudden become an elite DC and developer at Clemson? Oklahoma has consistently proven to be a bad school for defensive players over the last almost 20 years. Partially because: 1. The offensive style and pace played in the Big 12 makes most of their defenses look bad. 2. The lack of overall defensive talent and depth. If your defensive line doesn't get pressure on the QB, your secondary is gonna get torched. If your linebackers aren't filling gaps properly, it'll look like your entire front 7 is soft. Etc. Etc.
I have no doubt none of these players remember him being run out of Norman or even knew he was there previously. He won’t be telling them about the time they gave up 70 to WVU. All they know is that he has been a top 5 DC for the last 7-8 years and that Clemson put DL in the consistently. We don’t exactly have a huge selling point right now. Hey do you remember Taven Bryan yeah that was 2 coaching staffs ago (2018).
To be honest, I won't beat myself up if we don't get LeBlanc as I kinda prefer Kamran James over him.
Yea idk about prefer him. But with a little more coaching i don’t see why he couldn’t be just as good
