And you're expressing a cynicism about the Supreme Court that almost completely undermines its integrity.
Yes. Even if it hurts Republicans, which it very well might, this was the right decision for that very reason. Abortion is SUPPOSED to be a political issue.
So disappointing that this thread has failed to discuss the men this decision will affect. Men can get pregnant too, guys. Show some empathy.
Posters have made it absolutely clear that this is about paying for the kid after it's born, not carrying the baby for 9 months a vast majority of the time.
If by child support you mean the father should care for the mother and child... yes... that sounds good to me. More nuclear families makes the country better not worse.
Here's how I think this will play out. The technology exists to take the legality of the entire act of abortion out of the hands of government. Persistent hormone monitors will be developed through crowdfunding which will trend hormone levels allowing almost instantaneous pregnancy detection through smart devices. These devices will be made available for all women who may become pregnant. Abortion pills will end the pregnancy before it is necessary to have a clinical abortion. New blood-test device monitors blood chemistry continually | Stanford News Those who think they speak for God and our minority rule government and our paid for, corrupt, justices of the Supreme Court will be out of the anti-abortion business forever!
And if it’s a rapist? What are you going to do, force a 14 year old girl to marry her rapist so you can tout a nuclear family? What if the person is unable to pay for support and medical expenses, what is your solution then?
Based on Florida law, the woman will have 15 weeks to terminate the pregnancy. If it were up to me, the rapist would be sentenced to death, but that's been ruled unconstitutional. Rapists should at minimum be locked away with the key thrown out. Generally one bad act doesn't justify another. Just because you were raped, that doesn't justify the killing of an unborn child. But I'm sympathetic to such cases, I understand why they're so terrible. If all it took to win you over was carving a rape exception, I'd do it, but we both know that's not the case because you can abort a fetus for any reason up until 15 weeks, and you're still whining.
And the problem is that the people claiming how far left he is won't give him any credit for this because their identity has been tied to what a terrible extremist he is.
I have no idea how you can believe that there hasn't been any discussion of abortion and Roe v Wade, or that it was removed from the public forum. It's been front and center of American politics and discourse since the moment the Court handed it down.
Oh, not hardly. Trump's disinclination to surrender the presidency led to an insurrection, a pathetic scouring of the states for loose-change electors (please, Georgia, can you spare 1100 votes?), not to mention throwing our entire electoral system, and the Department of Justice, into crisis. Put Ginni Thomas into hyper-pearl clutching mode. Not to mention the pre-election anxiety engendered every time the media asked him flat-out if he would ensure a peaceful transition if he lost, and all he would say is, "well, that depends."
I should have said, as I normally do: " For the first time in presidential history - over two centuries - a defeated president failed to concede defeat and peacefully transfer power." No amount of sophistry can negate those two crucial points. Conceding Trump is a bad guy without acknowledging the profound harm he has caused the country does nothing to overcome the stench of hyper partisanship.
