Perhaps they ought. I'm open to including that as part of the public discourse we've been denied for 5 decades.

Put all the ideas on the table. Lets us, as a nation and a people, and a federal republic comprised of states, have that discussion.

    In excruciating detail.

The people vote for their representatives. If the support for this issue is so heavily skewed towards legal abortion nationwide, as many in this topic have theorized, then that goal, although not immediate, could be realized.

Don't kid yourself, both of our major parties are doing the exact same thing.

And the Left have demonized conservatives...so what is your point? Trump was/is a jerk, but if you believe that the divisiveness started with him, I have a property crossing the East River from Manhattan that I would like to sell you. It started way before that and has just become more strident ever since and includes the current administration.
Agreed on Trump and good for you for not demonizing conservatives...many on the Left have.

It's actually the process itself, that they're afraid of.

Justifying killing babies, is a tall order.

That's why Roe was so precious to them...and at least part of why it was so patently offensive to us.

    Let's fight this shit out.

    Let's go!

I don't think it is the process...liberals love a cause to fight for as much as conservatives (maybe even more). What they are afraid of is that they may not actually be in the majority of opinion despite what they claim.

If that we're the case, they'd have sought to codify Roe decades ago.

Roe was the nuclear option, and the Burger Court simply took it upon itself to take a monster dump on the constitution, in the name of peace.

....just like the court did in Dredd Scot.

Make no mistake--it's a debate they absolutely want no part of.

I’m surprised and disappointed you’d say this. I do not see democrats attacking democracy or their conduct being equivalent to what Trump and the GOp are doing. This does not mean democrats are free of fault, though I’ll be darn if I can see how that fault approaches what republicans are doing.

Agreed. Bothsidesism (ie false balance) is the safe harbor for folks without a credible argument.

Most likely because they knew they couldn't and why spend your political capital on something they knew probably wouldn't pass anyway and, at the time, was unnecessary due to the current SC rulings.

That's because you are looking at it through the lens of bias. However, I'm not going to sit here and claim to be disappointed that you would say something, because we all have our biases. Perhaps my view is just as colored, just in a different way.

However, unless I'm called a cretin, moron, idiot or a poster is just posting things to troll or stir up trouble (on either side), I can generally have an honest conversation on this platform. I don't get offended if someone doesn't agree with me.

It wouldn't be spending political capital if it was popular, now would it?

It would in fact be amassing huge political cap'l., if that were the case.

Alas, it's radioactive, and they do not want to get sullied by it.

Again, that is why Roe was sooooo valuable to them.

(...and I can only wonder what kind of a blow job Justice Blackmun got, for selling his soul...).

Hope it was worth it, your [dis]Honor.

Roe v. Wade was the Enola Gay dropping an A-bomb on democracy, and that's what y'all champion.

    That's a good starting point...

Fair enough. I certainly have my biases, but the issue here is equivalence, not bias, so perhaps you can tell me what democrats are doing to undermine our democracy, which is all that concerns me. Trump refused to concede and transfer power. He has created doubt in the integrity of our election system. Polls show approximately 70% of Republicans agree with him. Surely you agree this poses a mortal threat to democracy. So, I ask you again, what are Democrats doing that you equate to that??

If I knew that, I might agree with you.

At first I thought this was a joke, and even looked for the word parody, but it’s apparently the real thing.
