Ruling on the constitutionality of laws, to include that which overturns precedent is in effect making law. Dissenting opinions can't achieve such an effect, only majority opinions can.

The SCOTUS got it right. Abortion is not a constitutional right. It belongs in states jurisdiction as any fool can see.

That's true, but the dissents did not make any legal arguments to keep Roe in place. Even RBG said the original decision was on shaky ground. You have to admit when she (RBG) admits there is a problem with Roe, it will be eventually overturned.

That's a fiction that bullshit artists have sold to you. Courts make law. Our entire legal system (except for Louisiana) is based on English common law. Look up the meaning of "common law":
    common law
Common law is law that is derived from judicial decisions instead of from statutes. American courts originally fashioned common law rules based on English common law until the American legal system was sufficiently mature to create common law rules either from direct precedent or by analogy to comparable areas of decided law.

Courts do not make statutes, but they do interpret statutes. They also recognize, expand, contract, and eliminate rights. And they make common law where necessary to fill in gaps.

There are multiple legal arguments for why Roe and Casey make perfect sense. You can argue that we don't truly have liberty if we don't have the right to control our own bodies. You can argue under the Equal Protection Clause that anti-abortion statutes discriminate against women. You can make a forced labor argument. Or you can argue for it under the right to privacy, which is the basis for Roe. The arguments are there. Why didn't they carry the day this time? Because of politics.

I don't know about pissing people off. I'm more repulsed than anything. This is a really ugly perspective. Your outlook on the world is pretty messed up. You may want to think about the fact that you're classifying people as property.

I think we’ll see more polarization than ever as people move to states that reflect their level or religious psychopathology. Overall this is another step towards unwinding the experiment of a United States something these same people have tried since the 1860’s.

Lauren Hobart is spot on. Women CEOs gonna CEO.

“In response to today’s ruling, we are announcing that if a state one of our teammates lives in restricts access to abortion, DICK’S Sporting Goods will provide up to $4,000 in travel expense reimbursement to travel to the nearest location where that care is legally available. This benefit will be provided to any teammate, spouse or dependent enrolled in our medical plan, along with one support person,” Hobart wrote in part.

The point was that to most Americans fertilized eggs that are barely visible to the naked eye are not human beings even if the more extreme prolifers who are or will be making laws consider them as such.

Not be confused with the patron saint of the right, a serial adulterer with a long history of committing fraud who made a statement to the effect that he has never had to ask for forgiveness.

For the first time ever I'm glad for my daughter's sake that I'm in NY and she's not in danger. With some states criminalizing miscarriages, birth control, & tracking women's movements, I'd rather she work overseas if she can't get a job in a safe state. She will likely be upper 5 figures/6 figures in income. When enough professional, smart, talented women move out or refuse to go to Gilead states, the tax base will suffer more, and money talks doesn't it?

Shameful. Every person cheering this should be ashamed of themselves. It's not about abortion being right or wrong. It's also about privacy and the right of that for medical records among other things.

College men will suddenly find less women to hook up with - no birth control, no plan B, no abortion in case. I wouldn't doubt an increase in girls getting drugged at bars so guys can get theirs.

It's ok though. Senators will still be able to send their mistresses elsewhere for abortion services so they don't get found out.

I'm still recovering from my stroke but needed to post. And I have a slew on ignore so they may or may not see this.

This is absolutely disgusting. On so many levels. "Well if you don't want a baby use contraceptives. Be responsible." Yeah? IUDs are being treated as an abortion and you can be charged with a homicide. Others want to ban the use of condoms. Others want to ban all birth control because since life begins at implantation, a possible fetus could get expelled during menses.

So..."close your legs"....ever hear of rape? Ever been raped? I have. I fought hard, and lost. But I'm sure to some here, that was my fault.

Looking to get pregnant? IVF will be illegal. Because if you don't implant every single embryo, it's a possible murder charge (Louisiana).

Get pregnant and miscarry? Not only do you deal with the physical trauma of it, you can be charged until you can prove that it wasn't "intentional". Good luck because even doctors have testified you can't differentiate.

Have an ectopic pregnancy? Ohio says a doctor must reimplant it from the tube to the uterus. THAT ISNT SCIENTIFICALLY POSSIBLE! They put it in to score voting points with the ignorant and uneducated. Charges if a doctor doesn't try it.

Meanwhile, ectopic pregnancies? You. Can. Die.

Have a miscarriage or ectopic? Good luck getting the meds needed. Reports aplenty of women waiting in severe pain and getting septic waiting for clearance for treatment.

Want your tubes tied or to get your ovaries/uterus out? Doctors refuse to do it or want permission FROM YOUR HUSBAND if you're married, and won't do it if not married.

So no. It's not about abortion. It's about control. It's about wanting this country to turn the clock back 50-100 years or more.

And for the final hypocrisy. Banning abortion equals forced births. Forced births are a VIOLATION of UN Human Rights. This is the same type of stuff folks on this board would rant and rave about, yelling about how other countries violate human rights and how great the US is. About how they treat their women.

Sharia law...yes that law...allows for abortion.

This has now become a religious fight. Because other religions value the mother's life. So Jewish groups for example are already gearing up for a fight.

Congratulations to those cheering. The US has ZERO grounds to call itself the leader of the free world.

Bravo to the companies offering to pay for employee to leave the state for treatment. And bravo to the women including my daughter talking with their jobs by refusing to take their skills and income to Gilead states.

And a huge Bravo to the men out there opposed to this, who support women's rights, and who for the protection of the women they love are getting vasectomies.

Remember that a good portion of abortions come from COUPLES making the best decision for them.

As to all those babies folks want for adoption. There isn't a shortage of kids to adopt. They just don't fit the mold.

Speaking objectively. Only roughly 2/3 of eligible American voters vote, if that. If American women and/or blacks and/or poor feel discriminated against, it is up to them to get out and vote. Don't like the direction America is going? Then vote. Even with voter suppression laws if one wants to vote they will find a way.

Or one can sit around and complain about it but do nothing. It's a choice.
