Down the Stretch? Do you mean-- when the games really counted in a major way? Yes, many of us noted how many times the result was an unproductive out- but Sully kept him in the middle of the order.

From the scuttlebutt, Kopp added little to coaching the pitchers and if you'll recall - he stopped going to the mound down the stretch. Rumors have several dissatisfied young guys who came to UF with great expectations of quality coaching and feel let down. They were often throwing on their own and when there mechanics broke down- no one closely worked with them to correct.
Nole74 noted the mechanics' issues and it was visible to many us after he pointed out the flaws - but coaches unable to rectify.

I hope you're not "stretching" the truth again.o_O
I keep thinking back at our talks at fall and preseason practices about the hopes for this team. We tried to openly share our opinions as often as we could and imagined what this team could become. Sure we found some jewels like Coppola and Langford but we also missed on others like Abner, Hartman, Deric, and Prevesk. Its all just opinion and I appreciate those that are willing to share their feedback and info as they get it. I hope we can continue to share as much info as we can in the future regardless of what some may think of our ramblings. Thanks Gabe for all you have contributed here and hope to see you again this October.

    Nice info!!
Hmmm, with that stick he plays somewhere I think. Hoping that’s a mistake. Maybe was supposed to be an 8 instead of a zero.

I think Abner and Prevesk just need more time.

Sometimes college coaches don’t do as much mechanical/technique/fundamentals coaching as some may think. Not saying some staffs don’t do a bunch but just as many don’t.

I'll be there in the Fall Matt- no worries. I got Coppola and Langford spot on- but admit, I missed on Abner and Hartman for sure- In the Fall, they both looked ready to contribute- but both seem to lose something in the Spring and under the bright lights- but that leads me back to coaching. Abner in particular and (Manning too in '20/'21) -- both were highly touted out of HS and both had great fall scrimmages in 21, 20, respectively - but when their mechanics broke down- there appeared to be no one able to correct the flaws. That is my main point on young pitchers-- there is a sense that the coaching could have been better. Understand , that there is only so much that can be done between the ears but mechanics should be addressed with highly talented young guys,

I don’t really know anything about the Sante Fe program currently. When I was stationed in Jasper working out of Lake City I coached pitchers @ LCCC and we played them in the ‘80’s—I don’t remember really good teams there back then, maybe a player or two were pretty good, but I don’t have recollection of any wow players.

The team in Jax was a better team—FCCJ. Their coach had his players pretty well fundamentally sound.

Fully agree that Abner and Prevesk need more time- but they have to get their reps. While we are on the subject of reps- I'm surprise that Tucker Talbott has not hit the gap. Seemed a solid contact hitter but who knows why he never got more action other than catching warmups between innings.

I hope they stick around and don't hit the portal. Everyday I get on here and wonder who else might be gone. Talbott is on my watch list as well.

Thought he was gone but checked and didn't see his name among the departed so I guess he is still here. I must say the kid is a tremendous teammate considering he probably deserved considerably more opportunities than he received.

Please take this the right way... Is there any substance to that rumor. Most of the negative junk on this board is fantasy, but you have the best info of anyone.

Players leave for other programs every year, but I can't think of any in the Sully era who were important losses or who became high level players elsewhere. I must be forgetting someone, but it's not many. I just looked at the 2021 roster and saw a few names I liked, but Acton and Carrion prob were the big losses and neither would have played much for the Gators this year. Did any of the pitchers do much?

I felt the pitching staff made good improvement at about the time Sully began making trips to the mound, but he always has been able to make a quick trip with immediate results. It doesn't mean Kopp isn't effective and he still has a job.

    That is head coaches.

    Assistant coaches drink cheap gin.

I can’t think of a single transfer that improved their draft stock into a position UF would have desired AFTER leaving. There have been a couple guys that went to small schools and played well but they weren’t big draft picks.

Add to that, Wil Dalton, Shaun Anderson, BT Riopelle, probably Aleman, Taylor Lewis (the closer, right? Did I butcher that name?) etc IMPROVED their stock.

Maybe Sully and Co can’t coach. No idea. I get some of the gripes. But from the uninformed outside, guys that don’t produce here, don’t produce somewhere else. Doesn’t seem like it is coaches. Seems like some players aren’t as good as their HS rating. Just my take.

Was told today may have been playing out of position at short. “May” have been. In my mind he’s a second baseman or third baseman.
