The world is so out of whack when it comes to covid, you get a sane view from a politician these days it just seems radical.

My wife and I finally got it.
Me last week. Used Uncle Joe’s take home test. Cold symptoms- bit of fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat. No loss of senses. Not pleasant, not end of world. Went away after a couple days.
Then the wife got it. Similar symptoms. More concerned about her because overweight and 7 months pregnant. She got over the worst, but has lingering cough (which she gets after sickness, even pre Covid). I think the baby is fine, legit news sites say the risk would be if she unvaccinated or had gotten more serious ill.

No idea where we got sick, just were living life as normal, no extra risky places.

A couple years ago when the pandemic caused shutdowns, @oragator1 began posting hiking photos, which was a nice reminder that despite it all, we could still get out and enjoy nature.

Today we returned to Caribou Falls, one of my favorites in MN. Happy hiking all.

What Desantis did was just for political theater. Of course everyone will lap it up, cheer him on and say the state shouldn't be ordering vaccines but the state will end up paying for them anyway. Ever heard of medicaid?

Nope. He followed science like he did with opening schools. Everyone else played politics or was too scared to lead.

Lot's of people saw this coming. Unfortunately not our leaders nor many on this site.

Young Children Dying from Economic ‘Side Effects’ of COVID-19 Pandemic

The findings, published today in the journal PLOS One, shine light on a hidden COVID-19 death toll – young children who die not from the disease, but from the disruptions in food and medicine deliveries, closed health clinics and delays in childhood immunizations that have resulted from precautions taken to reduce the spread of the virus. Nearly half of the excess deaths of children are estimated to have occurred in sub-Saharan Africa.

“This is a group that is very sensitive to economic shocks and their plight isn’t being discussed,” says Joseph Millward, MHS, a senior research data analyst at the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs and one of the authors of the new study. “Many of the countries in our analysis have relatively young populations with tenuous access to stable housing, clean water, food, and primary care. The health of these children is highly susceptible to reductions in the economic well-being of their families. These are side effects of the pandemic.”

The researchers believe this is the first paper to provide estimates of the mortality impact of COVID-19 on children attributable to economic loss. It was conducted using data from the World Bank World Development Indicators and the United Nations World Populations Prospects.

The model created by the researchers looked at additional deaths in 2020 to be expected in children under 5 with a range of recession rates: a 5 percent, 10 percent and 15 percent reduction in a country’s gross domestic product (GDP). In the most conservative case, a GDP per capita reduction of 5 percent, the researchers estimated that between 279,000 and 286,000 additional lives of children under 5 were lost due to indirect effects of COVID-related recessions in 2020. That translates to an additional 43,000 deaths in India and an extra 22,000 deaths in Nigeria compared to an average year.

And again, don't listen to the charlatans saying the vaccine is super safe for kids. These people are lying to you.

"Pooled analysis of Pfizer & Modern C19 vax RCT data: “excess risk of serious adverse events of special interest > risk reduction for COVID-19 hospitalization relative to the placebo group in both Pfizer & Moderna trials (2.3 & 6.4 per 10,000 participants, respectively)”"

    Nice!

Wife and I did a lot of walking throughout the pandemic, sometimes on the city streets and sometimes on weekends, we'd head into the hills to hit the trails. Enjoying nature def helped the psych.

Recently, I've taken to upping my hiking game as a way to lose weight/get healthy. Climbed a small peak near my home 3x several weeks ago...before I flew home to NY see the fam/attend my cousin's wedding. Peak is at 7.5mi rt, and @ 3.5k elevation, though only 1.5k gain from the trailhead. Alltrails rates the trail as difficult. Did it with relative ease while still weighing north of 300.

Sorry, I don't have a great looking dog to add to the pics :)

No hiking while home, just walking in the city and along rural roads near their house. Still, just being in NYC and upstate in my old stomping grounds was a mental health blast I needed.

Brooklyn was absolutely hopping this weekend. Seems the city is coming back to life.

Funny story, as much as NYers get knocked, my cousins and I walked w/my mother & her sisters & uncles back from the wedding at the Brooklyn Winery the 8 blocks to the hotel (both in Williamsburg). Along the way, at least four people/groups stopped to tell them how nice they looked. This made a magical weekend all the more special for them. They're all north of 75yo.

Top two of NYC (Freedom Tower/Williamsburg Bridge & Midtown across the east river from Williamsburg). Bottom two near my parents house north of NYC, not far from the NY/NJ portion of the Appalachian Trail.

I try not to regret but one that I do is not taking advantage of all the trail hiking and beautiful sights out here. We live right in some mountain foothills and there are a mad number of trails to choose from..

Well I appreciate him putting on a suit from home to tell me. Also It should be noted that him saying that his symptoms are mild because he is vaccinated is absolutely not something he can prove. Most unvaccinated people experience mild symptoms with these variants.

And why is he closing his eyes so much lately when he talks?

    I'm kinda over him.

Also... Prayers for your mom my friend. Hope she gets through it without issue

You’re over him because he blinks too long and you don’t like how he framed his symptoms? At least you’re not being petty. Lol.

Mom is fine, thanks for the prayers. Her symptoms are mild since she is vaccinated and has a booster. :) She’s a right winger but she’s not crazy. She’s not gambling her life on the liberty to refuse a shot to own the libs. I do agree symptoms are mild from this new variant on everyone I’ve observed. Probably why it’s spreading.
