Small ball is where it’s at. The days of swinging for the fences are over. We proved that this year by hitting a ton of home runs and not even making supers again.

Maybe so but I’ll still pull for SEC teams.

This must be why home run rates were the highest they've been in years this season.

Completely different topic but since you opened the door….
Disagree, as you and I talked about on day of game we brought in a tired kid in Slater that had thrown 82 pitches already over the weekend. Coaching and decision making cost is the supers. No one can’t say “ he (Slater) had been our guy” all year long and we had to dance with him. you wanted him coming in and I said it was Sproat or 2-3 others. You can go back and reread my posts.
Even could have pulled him when he got in trouble but didn’t. Sproat could have come in even then and thrown 10 pitches to get us out of the inning.
Oklahoma’s coach made the decision to throw their ace Bennett after throwing 112 pitches Friday night and we did not.
They are in the CWS and we are not. 9/10 college coaches throw Sproat in that same situation.

So no, it wasn’t relief pitching that cost us. It was a coaching decision with putting a kid in a bad spot where he couldn’t succeed.

I thought it was because we swung for the fences instead of playing small ball.

Wouldn’t mind Ole Miss winning it all but hellz no to aTm and Arkansas. UF must remain the only SEC school to win the triple crown.

    I have before

Conference viewed as strongest. Doesn’t happen if another conference wins.

Provides extra motivation and pressure to coaches. You don’t think Sully is realizing in his first year in the conference Schlossnagle is ahead of him??

May make Sully rethink some of his own philosophies to see how others are passing him by. If your don’t think he’s a competitor your wrong. His ways though are at the very least not working the last couple of years. You think he’s not frustrated knowing we are at best 6th in the conference right now? Seeing Auburn and AM there has to bother him.

May make players rethink habits, approach, etc…as some things definitely are not working.

Yep, that too. Glad you agree with me on the coaching decision with regards to who entered the game and who didn’t Against Oklahoma.

Small ball wins and we don’t do it. Stringing together 3-4 singles in a row and in general finding ways to get on base wins. Bunting, moving runners over, putting ball in play, gotta be solid in those categories.

Why should the Gators care about how the SEC is viewed by others.
Your other points are just you guessing how the Gator players and coaches think about it-you have no idea what they are thinking.

Well.....you got one thing right, it is a completely different topic. One you have beaten to death.
Yes, in hindsight Slater should have been pulled earlier. But you know what other posts I can find? You screaming for Sully to go get a pitcher, only to have the kid work out of it and give a strong outing. I specifically remember a game where Pogue was in trouble early, you posting multiple times (shocking I know) he was done. Pogue gave about 4 perfect innings after that. So maybe on occasion the staff has an idea of who can handle certain situations

I seem to recall you calling for Slater on more than one occasion that day and me advocating for Sproat or others. Sometimes we are wrong. Hindsight…He should not have been out out there for the 3rd time in 4 days. There is no hindsight. Goes against everything we all know.

    Ok.

As far as perception goes if you don’t think kids want to play in the best baseball conference then we wholeheartedly disagree. Winning the CWS cements the thought that we are the best. This helps with recruiting. No debate there.
I’d like to think Sully has some very competitive bones in him and watching others pass him/us may open the kind a little.

Attention @WESGATORS . You can turn off the Hawgs vs Cardinal game. The Hawgs hit a leadoff triple.

As usual, you remember wrong. I didn't call for anybody...I simply thought Sully would go with Slater and I understood why he might do so. The reason I didn't call for anyone is because I didn't have the knowledge of how the guys felt, who looked good in the pen, how our scouting reflected matchups, etc.
Without having that crucial info how could anyone intelligently believe they knew best?
