I'm surprised that you actually read that character's posts. I try not to waste my time with posters who have never provided a single scintilla of useful or thought provoking information to the board.
Well to a degree....if you are publicly traded you do still have to answer to a Board which in turn is supposed to answer to shareholders.
For the most part, 'polite society' was (at least outwardly) horrified by lynchings and white mob violence too, even in the South, though certainly the law is more equipped now to punish bias crimes.
Apparently now it also means questioning management, and being anti-woke is getting your workforce into line by any means necessary
Violence is probably not a good barometer anyways. If you polled Americans today to determine what % think that private businesses should be able to discriminate service on the basis of people's skin color, I suspect that % is way smaller than it was 60+ years ago. And I suspect that shift has more to do with future generations replacing the generations that either supported or accepted that practice, than it has to do with all those people who used to think it was okay, just changing their minds. That was the point I was trying to make.
The issue is that it isn’t a uniquely liberal mission driven organization issue. Its a BS narrative. The NRA’s Petty Infighting Might Be an Early Sign of Its Downfall GOP infighting in the Missouri Senate will shape primary battles across the state • Missouri Independent Infighting in the Southern Baptist Convention shouldn't be a surprise – the denomination has been defined by such squabbles for 400 years Rebellion foments inside the American Bar Association over influence of Big Tech - POLITICO
Exactly how does posting links to other organizations negate the issues that are discussed in the article I posted?
Yeah, I think the larger picture is that institutional rot is everywhere, and lots of organizations are confronting problems from within. The Southern Baptist thing is very interesting. No one would describe them as "woke," but they are very much dealing internally with a crisis of covering up sexual abuse and making the church a "safer" place.
I hate the term “woke” because it has a strong political implication. When I see articles with that word in the title I skip them, because I know what they will say before opening it. I have made my opinion here clear many times though. I agree with the goals of the movement but their tactics and strategy have been, at best counterproductive, and at worst, just downright dumb. They seem to go out of their way to alienate the very people they need to eventually get to their side to make real change. Defund the police, trying to get people to declare their white privilege, using the flag/anthem as tools of protest (or even declaring the flag is racist), among many other things. It’s those types of things that created the “woke” blowback among the more tolerant middle, not the aims.
Wokeism is but the latest incarnation of a nasty weed that pops up from time to time under different names when the left fringe flashes over into collective tantrum mode at the urging of its financial benefactors and its facilitators in the media. It was the Communist infiltration of the labor movement of the 1930's, the counterculture of the 60's, the "12 Years!" backlash against Reagan/Bush in the early 90's, and now Wokeism. It'll run its course and be back again in another generation or so.
I will state it simply. If internal conflict is the demise of woke culture then internal conflict is the demise of the NRA and Churches and the GOP. There was nothing uniquely specific to a broad range of liberal organizations that wa presented. It was a narrative with cherry picked examples.
I don’t think you know what that means. I offered up examples of conflict in non liberal organizations, not to justify conflict (which would be whataboutism), but to show that there is no unique pattern of conflict inside liberal mission driven organizations. That’s the premise of the article that isn’t laid out well. It’s basically an anecdotal story. It’s like getting bad service at Walmart and assuming they all have bad service. Ok… that’s a bad example but you know what I mean
The internal conflicts at these institutions have absolutely nothing to do with woke culture or tha article I posted.
